Did Big Brother ABP ignore that youtube ad again, anon?

There's actually a theory that the ad bubble will burst soon since all these companies with huge user bases generate fuckall in terms of actual results for the advertising companies. We may see an ad free web again

This. All of the best websites are intentionally ad-free because they're run by passionate hobbyists who have no problem paying for their website to stay alone.

Personally don't want the ads to stop. How sites get their royalties,
Youtube will be deaded if there were no ads and honestly having to wait 5 seconds to watch a video on youtube isn't bad the worst, Youtube with ads or having to pay monthly for Youtube and other top-tier sites.

Absolutely this. I can't remember which tech site it was, but it was ransoming content and after working around it out of spite, the article turned out to be shit. You know, more like someone's hobby blog rather than a marvelous journalistic masterpiece.

I mean who the fuck do these people think they are? I'm not going to disable my adblocker, I don't want them to have any money. I don't even want to waste a fracture of my attention on advertisements, I do not want to do anything to benefit the site. As a matter of fact I'm insulted that they play it as if their content is exceptional or even worth reading. It wasn't.

I think it will end in ad blocking becoming illegal, if you are viewing a site which has advertisements by the will of the owner, you could get busted for it. Our rotten politicians will make sure it's the user suffers. As a good side to this, it will promote more community oriented free content as not everyone is a journalist, or more importantly, a shitty excuse for a journalist. But on the other hand, jewey content creators will use everything in their power to take down free content by referring to copyrights and all that bullshit.

It's going to be difficult in the future.
>>
>>53551919
I would also prefer that they put up their fucking paywalls, but the politicians will most likely make ad block illegal.

If they put up a paywall were gonna se site after site shut down, becouse none wanna pay for their garbage.
>>
>>53552319
Adblock is one of those things that is impossible to make illegal.
It's like making breathing air from a certain area illegal
>>
>>53552346

Yeah, well, there already are illegal strings of numbers. You share them, and you will get sued. Usually involves encryption keys. But they are still numbers, nothing you made, copied, stole or anything. Just numbers.
>>
You know, back in the oldternet people hosted websites and gave away content out of pocket. It wasn't cheap back then either. Stop eating shit from the same handful of mediacorps that already own old media and the problem solves itself.
>>
>>53546179

But then we'll have to pay for everything on the internet. Have you ever tried to stream a video online or download something and you had to sign up and or get a paid membership? Well imagine that but with every last fucking website. The only way to get around it would be to search for hours and probably not even find a genuine free site that isn't malware central.
>>
>>53552921
Or we will get statically generated, extremely fast loading websites with max. 1 advertisement link (no image, no js) at the bottom, so you can host thousands of them on one server.

Basically the opposite of medium.com - no 3 mb image, no 2mb js, no 1mb webfonts, only one request for the entire page

I wouldn't even block ads if Doubleclick/Google ads weren't so fucking terrible.

I don't want to see a huge animated flash banner that chews up my battery life and tries to scam me. If most ads resembled billboards, stuff like a picture of a bottle of windex and a funny slogan or a Polar Bear drinking a Coke, I would turn off adblock immediately. 4chan does that, and I've whitelisted the website.

Seriously, this is not a hard problem to fix. I don't mind advertising in general, I mind advertising that actively makes my browsing experience worse. I think a lot of people are the same.
