Bought a GTX 970 Zotac at 300 and again at 260.
The power limit means no overclocking what-so-ever and the BIOS modding failed the last several times I used Zotac's flashing utility.
Didn't brick the cards, it just threw an nondescript error.
This is an obsolete card in DX12 titles.

BIOS imposes strict 105% power limit from the default TDP of 145 watts.

If it goes overboard the card crashes. Any clock up is worthless any voltage increase will crash it immediately.

Pulled them from the cards and used a maxwell utility to up the power limitations back when I had windows.
Threw a number error for a piece of software no one had any knowledge or documentation of.

No, they advertised only the reduced shaders. The ROPs and memory cache were supposed to be the same. The latter of which results in 3.5GB of usable VRAM.
That being said its still a great card and given it was kicking the 290x's ass for the better part of a year while being significantly cheaper when it launched. You'd be an idiot to buy the 290 or 290x over the 970 in 2014.
