NVIDIA REKTS ALL GPU IN THE WORLD
>>
>>53538260
Fake. Gtx 1080ti will have hbm2 Its gonna be the same as always (780ti-titan black, 980ti-titan X)
>>
this is odd but welcome. what consequences could this have for physx support on AMD and Intel GPUs?
>>
Only partially open.
But at least it's something.
>>
>>53538145
>yfw they will remove all the nvidia specific proprietary shit from it first
>>
>Now it seems that with the Release of GameWorks 3.1 Nvidia is moving to become more Open with GameWorks, having announced that PhysX, PhysX Clothing, PhysX Destruction, Volumetric Lighting and Nvidia's FaceWorks Demo are now all available with Source Code on Github, with HairWorks, HBAO+ and WaveWorks being added at a later date.

>This move makes Nvidia's GameWorks a lot more similar to AMD's GPUOpen, though all of Nvidia's Tools and libraries will not be available to the public with souce code from the start, though Nvidia do say that they intend to release the source code for "most or all technologies over time".

Good news but it's not every piece of goymworks just certain pieces. There might be some licensing stuff holding them back
>>
>>53538506
Nothing at all actually. I understand gamers want to think that this is some groundbreaking move that will suddenly mean that the GW suite will run as smooth on competing products, but that's just not reality.
>>
>>53538645
One of AMD's criticisms of gameworks was that they couldn't get access to the source code to make it not suck on their cards. This at least helps with that
>>
>>53538145
>allowing access your butthole
>not allowing access your real moneymaker
Come on, nVidia. You have to take in two to advance.
>>
>>53538645
It won't, but AMD and Intel can mitigate the impact by seeing what pieces of hardware certain features utilize and obviously optimize.
>>
based nvidia
>>
>>53538145
literally based. especially happy about hbao+ one of main reason I stick to nvidia - AMD simply doesn't have an option to force it
>>
>>53538675

It helps quite a lot with that
>>
>>53538754
That's not on the list of open source stuff for some time yet, anon. But yes, it is about damn time that Nvidia starts being a little more open.
I think they've realised that public image isn't with them as much as it used to be, after the recent 3.5 plebgate and HairWorks fiascos.

Not enough to make me support Nvidia again, not by a long shot (I haven't owned a Nvidia card since the GT220, admittedly) but its a start.
>>
>>53539394

It's only good news for people with AMD cards I would say
>>
>>53540314
Not true. Its good for developers too.
The more they can understand about what they're putting into games, the more they can work to optimise it for ALL players.
The more they can customise the code; turn off (or down) features they don't need/want, the more performance they can get.
The more they understand, the more they can adapt.

It's not as open source as Nvidia would like you to believe. Tthe code isn't licensed under a free software license or even a permissive one. You're free to use their source code for as long as they allow you to but they can terminate the license at any point.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NVIDIAGameWorks/FaceWorks/master/license.txt

>Term: This License is effective until terminated. NVIDIA may terminate this Agreement (and with it, all of Developer's right to the Materials) immediately upon written notice (which may include email) to Developer, with or without cause.

Did you not follow the tech industry news when 3.5 was discovered? The way Nvidia kept quiet about the issue for so long; denying any existence of faulty memory, THEN trying to claim it was a feature and that people should be GLAD?
There's more they've done, but that's just one of the easiest things to pull up.
>>
>>53538145
They only put the things that don't gimp cards any more in the repo while make new gimps that are closed source. Once people figure out how to ungimp the new stuff, they will open source it.

For devs this is kinda a victory but its not certain to last. Nvidia can end the license whenever they feel like it because it's not permissively licensed. Nvidia is just temporarily granting you access to their source code and the ability to distribute it under some conditions.

Doubt it, officially the max rate is actually 7800mhz which was updated from 7010, so yeah evne though Maxwell cards could clock 8000mhz memory the official for better binned GDDR5 chipsets is actually 7800mhz.
