vim is complete garbage. you spend more time trying to learn the hotkeys than coding.

notepad++ is the best. although it is not cross platform, it can run fine under wine/playonlinux. i use it on my debian setup.

Vim is shit only if you don't learn it.
Even if you know mid-beginner level vim you're faster than anyone with any other text editor.

Geany
Although it's more or less a loonix Notepad++ by itself, admittedly.

i don't need to be faster, i need to be productive. writing half-assed codes is no help.

I fucking love Notepad++.

It deals with any kind of files and is small, intuitive and powerfull.

Geany is also decent desu sempai.

When will these shitty GNU/Linuxfags get out? Will they ever learn to use a good unixlike operating system?
>>
>>53538830
>assumes i use linux

i am linuxfag tho so good guessing. and i agree unlixike systems like freebsd are great.

vim is vi enhanced, vi is trash. use vim.
>>
>>53538878
>vim is vi enhanced
More like vi bloated.
Also, I was able to guess your OS since the only other unixlike that has vim installed by default is Mac OS X, and no one installs vim on a unixlike that already has a good version of vi.
I'm glad you enjoy FreeBSD though. I just recently switched from it to OpenBSD.
>>
>>53538954
there is vim-minimal if you dont need the extra features

>vim installed by default
im running fedora and for some reason it doesnt have vim, nano or vi installed by default. kinda annoying.
>>
>>53539036
Oof. Yeah, a lot of GNU/Linux distros are really messed up, which is why I avoid that OS now.
A lot of default installs, which one would assume would make a usable OS, end up lacking really important things, like man pages or text editors.
>>
>>53539108
i see myself using fedora for a while since its actually really stable (imagine redhat?).

i tried freebsd with xfce and it didnt work well at all, for example firefox would crash the whole vm as soon as i launch it. what DE would you suggest?
>>
>>53537885
atom or sublime... wtf I was using notepad++ at college 10 years ago it was already old
>>
>>53539185
old software doesn't mean its bad.
>>
>>53539172
The distro I used that came with no man pages was coincidentally CentOS.
I don't use full-fledged DEs anymore. Firefox worked on my FreeBSD system, not sure why it didn't work for you. Also, remember that porting GNU/Linux DEs to other OSes is very difficult due to Linux-specific dependencies.
There's a nice light DE I was using on FreeBSD called Lumina. In OpenBSD I don't even use a DE at all, just a window manager.
>>
>>53539285
Lumina is close featurewise to LXQt.

Notepad++ is the best.

I heard good things about emacs lisp but it can't be worth that ugly ui.

Vi is ugly and unintuitive.

I just wished for n++ to have scripting suport (or to improve de macros) and to work better on wine.
>>
I use Notepad++ because it has some really sick plugins I can't do without.
>>

It's shit. Get Sublime Text, Brackets, Atom or LightTable. There's TextMate too, but I haven't checked if there's a Linux version.
>>
>>53539585
It took me less than a day to do the entire basic tutorial textfile for nvi.
I also skimmed the advanced tutorial that same day.

It's really not that hard if you say "I'll learn it today"
