Is there any way to tell whether a closed source operating system has a back door or not?
>>
No.

>>53528410
why?
>>
Yes and yes it does.
>>
Yes.
It's closed source so it must be backdoored.

Yes but it isn't easy or quick

It's really hard to explain this succinctly without knowing how much or little you understand about this topic. I don't really want to spend more than an hour explaining the reasoning behind this only to find that you were perfectly capable of doing all that reasoning on your own, but that you didn't know the definition of "closed source", so all I had to do was explain that to you.

So I'll just say the reason why is that you can't look into the code that dictates the functionality of closed source software, and while it may not be doing anything visibly *now*, it's impossible to rule out that some protocol has been written to cause the operating system to respond to people with back door credentials.

They're monitoring everything. No surprises.

How much data can you get out of software that has been reverse engineered? Would doing that help you find possible backdoors?

Not op but very nice explanation.
