how far do you think that VR thing will go?
>>
It will get release, a few YouTubers will do some stupid voices whilst playing, kids will want them.
People will realised its overpriced hype and it will die a nasty death.
The companies will realise this, release them at a decent consumer price and a few games will support it.
>>
It will go all the way but it will take a while. This wave might not do it.
>>
VR in some form will follow humanity until extinction, it's too fundamental to ever go away.
>>
I think for simulators like fsx, dcs, arma etc. this might be a hit, cause lot of people that plays this would want VR to get the full visual experience, like a helicopter when using 3D combined with headmotion and wide field of view to do a good hover. But still I think for the most people this is just a 'want' and dont a 'need'. I am exiting for it and waiting for oculus rift commercial release. Overpriced, yes but I have a jobb and can afford both a computer and Oculus rift.

This generation will go all the way to the trash.

As long as the only senses used is Hearing and seeing, it's just not enough.

"Desktop" VR is shit and overpriced and won't take off. Smartphone VR is where it's at.

It will die and be resurrected repeatedly until it's worth using.
>>
Do people really think VR is just for games? If bot strict VR, AR will go a long way.

Meant *not

>>53505247
it'll be a thing that people fool around with porn and video games like 3d for the past several decades

I want to see an actual fucking VR headset for once!

Valve/oculus/hololens overpriced.
Every fucking other company charges £70 for a phone case you can strap to your head AND PEOPLE BUY THEM!
No other company makes VR headsets

5 years and die like the rest.
And then >>53505607 just like 3D.

its hype.

It will remain a niche product for about the next two years, until the mainstream catches on in 2018 or so when the tech becomes cheap and prevalent enough to get in people's homes.

I keep coming back to this comparison because I think it's pretty accurate - The first iPhone was 600$, and it released eight years ago. Today, you can buy something with the same (if not better) specs for 20$.

The time is right for VR to catch on, it just needs a little time to get established. The only real headset that's actually available to consumers right now is a mid-tier solution exclusive to high-end Samsung smartphones. Cardboard is just a demo. When Rift and Vive launch, people are gonna start talking. When they become affordable, people will jump on it. And given the amount of games and software we already have for these things, the amount of applications that the tech will have will be huge by 2018 or so.

tl;dr : it's coming. It won't hit market saturation this year, but this is the beginning of something big.
>>
Mobile: It'll probably catch on, phones are powerful enough to drive it and the price is right $1-100. This will (and already is)drive software development that VR so badly needs. It's perfect for portability where it's not feasible to bring a big screen, yet you get a "huge" screen.

PC/console: Probably not catching on soon. The price is all wrong at $600+...

...Which is very overpriced. Screens are lower res than phones, the main component can't cost more than $100. Motion tracking, lens and such might cost at most another $100.

Then they include other tat, like headhones and controllers, that aren't needed, and pocket the rest.

Then PC/console VR has a slew of other issues that mobile doesn't. Most gaming PCs and consoles for sure can't play games at 90fps with the current standard of graphics. Much less if the VR headsets get a BADLY NEEDED resolution upgrade to 2.5k or 4k.

The market is going to be very small, resulting in a lack of software and a lot of fragmentation, especially with different headsets and all the different controls (There's just one controller other than kb&m that universally supported on pc, still)

The controls suck. Playing fps games with anything but a mouse sucks - and valve and occulus are both pushing other controls. Also - turning is always going to be awkward with current tech, and aiming(with your face) currently sucks as well.
