it's 2 full GPUs
263W per GPU is actually pretty good for AMD

The nano only has a 175W TDP, i have no clue why they didn't aim for a lower TDP with this card

I can't wait to bridge them. With a price tag of 3k for both I'm expecting a lot. But may as well try

Yeah, I've been out of the desktop game for a while. I'm used to seeing 2W-48W TDP.

new shit is just more energy efficient, it's not going to perform much faster
>>

GDDR5X should help, but HBM2 cards won't be out for a year now I guess
>>
>>53497667
it'll be a stretch assuming it's GDDR5X or HBM1, more likely it will still be GDDR5. after all they need to keep the HBM shtick for the Fury until Vega comes out.
>>
>>53497667
I thought AMD moved to HBM1 from GDDR5, or are the lower end cards going to move to GDDR5X?
>>
$1499 USD = $2250.92NZD

Ouch
who could afford that in my country?
welp i bet KimDotCom is going to get one.
>>
>>53497712
you'd be better off importing with a lower declared price and hoping customs don't catch it

i managed to get $2100 headphones and a $2000 amp/dac in like that
>>

HBM is still in very low production, the 480/490 will probably be using GDDR5X

>>
>>53497805
>I doubt that would do much as its amd's stock price
depending on where you buy it from they could declare it as lower.

>I don't even want to add New zelands tax of 15%
that's what you'd be paying if it gets caught by customs, we don't pay customs fees on electronics import, just GST if it's over the value of $400NZD (declared or discovered as being)
>>
>>53497805
>not buying 2kw of solar panels to run your quad fury desktop
>>
>>53496959
Underwhelming as fuck. They needed this shit as soon as Fiji released. It's way too late now with Polaris and Pascal on the same year. Buying high end 28nm right now is retarded, buying this would be like buying a Titan.

>>
>>53497819

>>
>>53497844
he's right though. the titan line used to actually be worth something because they had pro capabilities like DP.

then they decided to scrap that with the titan x and just make it an overpriced consumer card.

>Implying they ever see the sun in Mordor
>>
>>53497838
>It's way too late now with Polaris and Pascal on the same year.
except polaris isn't going to have anything more powerful, it's just about efficiency and perf/watt
>>
>>53497853
Oh, I understand now.
The only reason I could see dual fury X being a hard thing to swallow is because of the two separate radiators.

Seriously though, anyone looking for top perf/dollar should just buy 2 nanos and water cool them. The cost of 2 nanos+ blocks should put them close to x2 fury X and they get to keep them under water with one rad.

I'm sure there's a custom bios too that could give them more power draw as well.
>>
>>53497859
>>53497844
12gbs of VRAM is pointless, and the 980ti is faster with an OC
>>
>>53497875
You can increase the power draw through software without anything special
>>
>>53497882
Then why does the Titan X even exist aside from being a status symbol and a money grab due to oil shieks that just buy whatever GPU is the most expensive?
>>
>>53496959
>ACTUALLY 500w+ TDP

Even as an Nvidia fan I was concerned they might put some top bin chips in there. But nope, just regular shit ass housefire fiji. I was guessing $1200 too, now it's $1500.

Jesus fuck amd
>>
>>53496959
>$1500
What the actual fuck? Why not get separate cards instead? They better come bundled with virgin pussy juice, fuck.
>>
>>53497928
Titan X is it not even that expensive.

Non ref 980 ti cost $700.

+ 5% tax

Thats $750.

Add a $120 waterblock.

Thats $870, or $30~$50 away from a Titan X with 6gb more ram and 5% better performance.
>>
>>53497968

>needing waterblock for maxwell

Until you go for crazy bios mods with enormous voltage overhead maxwell under water is a waste of time.
>>
>>53497985
Noise is still noise. I went the waterblock route.

Thinking back now I *might* have paid an extra $50 to get the Titan X and run that shit with the ref cooler and trick myself into buying a waterblock down the road.
>>

>>
Any indication on what radiator size it comes with? I'd be surprised if its 120mm given the 295x2 would saturate its rad.
>>
>>53497622
If your aim is performance who the fuck cares? It's not like 1200w PSUs are hard to find. The Nano's perf/watt was just to fill a niche. The Polaris dual gpu will probably have a lower TDP since it looks like the aim is for low TDP to begin with.
>>
>>53497932
>>53497967
295x2 was $1500 at launch. Why are you surprised it's $1500? It'll go down once Polaris is launched anyway.
>>
>>53498336
the point is to avoid the claims that their cards draw a lot of power when in reality with voltage optimization they can be just as efficient as nvidia cards while still out performing them

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/msi-afterburner-undervolt-radeon-r9-fury,4425.html
>>
>>53498364
I'd rather they release the card with decent clocks than bother with meme wars to be honest
>>
>>53498364

GCN just doesn't like going over 1ghz with sane voltage, but AMD had to do it to maintain performance.

>>53498385

Power draw was irrelevant when Nvidia cards were nuclear reactors. Now Nvidia hascurbed their power draw for maxwell its suddenly the only important factor. Funny that.

It might not matter when it's 15% or 25%.

It matters when the competition is 125% better.

Isn't Polaris going to be 2.25x better pref/watt? That'll put it on Maxwell level.
>>
>>53498455
>Isn't Polaris going to be 2.25x better pref/watt? That'll put it on Maxwell level.
polaris is already more efficient than maxwell, nvidia will most likely take the house fire crown back for this upcoming gen of cards.
https://youtu.be/kuT-bnGcrUM?t=69
the polaris preview is at 1:09.
>>
>>53498455
Wattage is pretty negligible though. Like maybe a few more dollars a year on your power bill. Do cards that pull more power have a shorter life span? Maybe like 10 years down the line but no one even keeps cards for that long.

To be fair at least AMD can produce a dual GPU which isn't garbage, which Nvidia isn't capable of.
>>
>>53498559
that's because they have poorer dual GPU scaling, so it wouldn't make sense for them to make one
>>
>>53498559
Oh they could. They just couldn't drive the Maxwell is so much cooler and quieter meme if they added the needed CLC cooling.
>>
>>53498514
I'll take with a grain of salt. Hiding all the settings and doing all sorts of optimizations in ccc to beat the competition is nothing impressive. Anyone can restrict the power limit and undervolt to achieve favorable results. It's not like amd has ever been truthful about their products actual performance either, understandably so.

I managed to get a watercooled Titan X from a close friend of mine. The only problem I have with it is that I don't really want to use it over my R7 360 which I have never even put stress on.

You are correct. If you aren't playing demanding games, rendering, or any other GPU intensive tasks, you don't need a 980ti. Upgrading to it will have little to no effect on your PC experience. You're best off selling it and sticking with your current card.

You're not cooling that load very well with a shitty thin rad, either.

We've done vapour chamber cooling with similar loads and die sizes 5 years ago. This CLC thing is only a fad that has gone too far while retaining it's bottom-bid OEM.

I'd be far happier if they TRIED a modular approach, let alone competent pumps, rads and cooling beyond the die.

If I didn't know that 90% of CLC's use 1mm thick rads with a massive FPI count, I wouldn't know what that meant.

You'd think they could spring to at least 30mm rads and alleviate CFM/static pressure requirements, but no, they just jump to 240/280.

It's all just so fucking cheaply assembled despite the high cost of purchase, it fucking boggles my mind.
