what do you fly /g/?

this is an old pic of my quad when I first built it over a year back
>>
I'm flying a Hubsan that my friend gave to me. Shit is pretty cute and nice so far, but I do wanna get deeper into the hobby. I just gotta save up for everything else now. Well that and learning how to fly from different perspectives. Shit is confusing yo.

This is a zmr250 right? It looks like the battery goes inside. Do you have more pics? I've never seen one set up like this

yeah it is. I swapped the top and bottom plate so I could put most of the electronics in the bottom and the battery just slides in the back where it fits snug

I'm in the same boat as you. Flying a Nano QX. I wish I had the money for it.

Yea, good controllers are expensive but at least you can upgrade a bit. They have an awesome looking frame for the NQX on Picnic Quads.

I have a chance to get my friend's 250 frame and stuff but it scares me. I should just take it since he is giving it to me.

My 4 rotor from 12 years ago. I designed the firmware and all the electronics (including brushless controllers) except for the receiver.

I've never seen a scratch built quad before, let alone one from 2004. What was it like building/flying that thing?
>>
>>53493048
It was expensive and very fun being on the forefront. I regret that I dropped development of it all the time now that the skies are filled with these things. I did design another one about 4 years ago that was much more capable, but used off-the-shelf brushless controllers for that one now that you can buy them with fast enough response time.

i just lack motivation...some day i'll fly again

The only time I flew a quad the controls were very "direct". I learned it eventually but it's not pick-up-and-go. Is there any semi-automated control scheme that keeps the quad level while you fly it around?

Here is a video of it. All I did was turn up the throttle. I was trying to prove that it was stable without "manual flying". Might sound stupid now, but was pretty cool back then. Too bad can't add sounds streams in this thread. Those Axi motors sound really unique.

I've wanted to build a 250 FPV quad for a while. I'd like to eventually do aerial photography, but that can get ridiculously expensive.

Quadcopters typically have an auto-leveling mode that level it and keep it in place as soon as you let go of the sticks.

>>53492655
That's actually really impressive for 12 years ago.

>>53494502
Holy shit that video is like an archeology dig

neat. I must have been using something really cheap

Yeah... My first gyros cost $280USD each. I bought 3 of them. Motors were similar cost. Accelerometers weren't too bad if I recall. I did 6 design revs on the brushless motor controllers in 2003 before I could actually fly it. I also added air pressure, magnetometer, and GPS. There were a few other people working on them back then, but mostly DC motors and RC toy mode. I was one of the first ones working on a 4-rotor, autonomous platform as far as I know. The first 4-rotor RC toy I saw, which was my inspiration for working on one, was the Dragonfly. It was a gyro-stabilized platform. It made the inherently unstable platform possible to fly for someone good with an RC controller. Wasn't much else around back then except for a few others working on their own clone of the DragonFly. Might sound kind of egotistical, but I'm anon right? So, I guess it is ok.
