adblock on suicide watch

they are now taking money to inject un-blockable ads directly into your browser. this is a separate thing from their whitelist. you cannot turn these ads off

I have been wondering how long it was going to take for this to happen. It is the logical step, when you have a product that serves its use, blocking ads, and it is installed across millions of devices, the logical thing to do next is to monetize it.. by showing ads served by you.

Agnitum outpost firewall used to have this plug in that blocked ads based on their size, worked really well, isn't there something similar to that as a plug in for firefox/chrome?

It doesn't matter how or who pays for them, that is between the magazine/content producer and the advertiser.

The magazine/content producer publishes their product for free and it is left for anyone to look at, the person looking at it simply doesn't look/pull/click on the ads.
>>
>>53459861
By the very definition of the law it is pirating.

They are to the consumer if they are free for you to take. Obviously someone pays for the distribution/printing/production, the advertisers pay, in exchange they get their ads exposed to thousands of people. Go look at Metro newspaper.
>>
These can be turned off, it's a check box right above the intrusive advertising checkbox.
I know this because I have one machine that I haven't switched over to u block yet.

Will do it soon though, but it's not AS bas as it seems.
But it's still pretty bad.

good one, shlomo.
>>
>not blocking ads at the source with hosts

In all seriousness, if Internet advertising wasn't intrusive and privacy-threatening I wouldn't give two shits about them. It's the fact that visiting a website without ad blockers causes requests to a billion other websites and enough cookies to kill Cookie Monster that it becomes a problem.

This. I do it a bit differently though. I have my router give all DNS queries to one of my PCs, which returns 127.0.0.1 if it's blacklisted, otherwise it queries Google for the real IP of the domain
>>
>>53460420
What kind of router are you using?

If I built a pfsense box one day, this is what I'd do.
>>
>not just blocking the class they used for their custom ads in 2 seconds
how casual
>>
>>53460448
Just the Verizon piece of shit default router. The DHCP is setup to tell all hosts to query the router for DNS. The router would normally go straight to the Verizon DNS to resolve it but I made to to my own server first, to filter out adservers.
>>
>>53460536
>The DHCP is setup to tell all hosts to query the router for DNS.
It's already less of a piece of shit than the AT&T U-verse router which has hard-coded DNS.

ive had stores bitch at me for reading the magazines without paying

they really are that jewish
>>
>>53460650
the magazine isn't being sold for the pulp you could make with it. it's being sold for the content. reading the content in the store is some amount of theft.

people are fine with you leafing through shit, but just reading the magazines in the store without paying is wrong, and you seem to know it.

Only if you make it do so. By default it prevents you from connecting to ad domains.

Jesus Fuck /g/ is dumb.

Adblock and ABP are two entirely separate plugins made by different people.
>>
>>53460878
go to reddit where the real intellecutals are :^)
>>
>>53459856
Exactly. Website operators have valued their properly as worthless and thus the advertisers don't have to pay to get placement.
>>
Pro-tip: Adblock and Adblock Plus are two different add-ons run by two different organizations.
>>
>>53457058
idk who they think they are, cause i surely wouldn't be amused if a program i installed for one thing started doing the opposite for fucking publicity
>>
>>53457058
basically the author(s) was paid ahead of time and the advertisers are happy even if people see the ads for just 1 time before uninstalling ABP
>>
>>53461339
This has nothing to do with ABP.
Learn to read, it's an important skill.
>>
>>53461280
Protip: everyone referring to Adblock+ just call it Adblock except a handful of autists.
>>

You aren't entitled to a paycheck just because you type words on a computer screen.

I don't expect to get paid by making this post calling you a cocksucking shill, yet I'm making this post anyway.
>>
>>53460698
I'm no expert, I do security at stores though and plastic wrap is iffy. It costs money to plastic wrap things and people seem to just rip the plastic and do what they want anyways. And ripped plastic makes a product seem less appealing, so then legit customers don't buy it.

Paper media is dying anyways, so there's that.
>>
>>53459893
How ironic it is that this page calls out other websites for being bloated while it's over a megabyte in size, with the vast majority of that consisting of images.
>>
>>53459436
>just hides
Exquisite meme. To achieve that you have to disable everything except "ADBLOCK'S cosmetic CSS filters". Who's hiding shit now, huh?
>>
>>53462028
If someone takes time to produce quality content that others enjoy, why should they not get paid?

Content creators deserve to be paid for their content, if people like it. I just don't want to be bombarded with ads, malware vectors and tracking shit. Which is why I "donate" via patreon to people I like.
>>
>>53462318
>If someone takes time to produce quality content that others enjoy, why should they not get paid?
Why should they get paid? Just because they've created content? Millions of people create content on social networking sites and they don't get paid.

You aren't inherently entitled to monetary compensation just because you spend your time doing something. If people are willing to pay you to sell your time, then you are entitled to compensation in that regard.
>>
>>53459760
>I have been wondering how long it was going to take for this to happen. It is the logical step, when you have a product that serves its use, blocking ads, and it is installed across millions of devices, the logical thing to do next is to monetize it.. by showing ads served by you.
>implying they weren't already doing this with their 'acceptable ads' racket
>>
>>53462318
Things don't work that way, anon. People get paid if they DEMAND payment, not if they deserve to.
>>
>>53462318
If they want to get paid then they should make a deal with advertisers to get paid up front for space on their website.

That's what every other fucking media does.

In every other fucking media the advertiser knows that only a small portion of the viewership will actually buy based off an advertisement. It's the same fucking thing except advertisers have managed to con website owners into believing that space on a website is worthless and and click/view based payment model would be more profitable for them.
>>
>>53462318

There is no right to be paid for work that you do on your own.

The issue at hand here is not the content producer getting paid or not. The issue at hand here is the content is published online to be consumed by everyone for free, the creator is hoping to generate enough traffic in order to add up the pennies it pays per click/print of an ad. If they generate zero traffic they don't get paid. If they feel their work is worth the money they expect to be paid for its existence then they should sell it instead of giving it away and complain that it isn't generating them any money.

I don't pay for free to air TV. I walk away for a shit or coffee when the ad break comes on, evading the ads, thus the method by which the station stays alive, selling air time.

Should I go directly to goal because I stole/consumed that show without exposing myself to ads?
