>Americans don't even know how to register a domain
>>
.us domains are somewhat restricted, it requires additional paperwork

most american websites are at .com

get some education ;^)
>>
>tfw Holland has a domain name for every 3 people.
>>
>>53435300
Are you trying to say that:

.com
.net
.org
.edu
.mil
.gov

Are all not US?
>>
Why would Americans use .us? .com is the standard and very American.
>>
>>53435344
.com is from Tokelau now
.net is British
.org is German
.edu is now Dutch
.gov is China

The web belongs to superpowers now. Which are clearly not Americans.

It's an American imitation of a Japanese image board created by an American that was hosted in the US until it went to the cloud and now it's hosted all over including the US.
>>
>>53435906
That's what it used to be. Before it improved by removing all American elements.
>>
>>53435791
Well classifications such as those aren't really relevant anymore. It's not like hosting a charity service with a .com domain is illegal.

It's split between two US based companies you dumb nigger.

.com = ICANN and Verisign (US)
.org = PIR (US)
.net = Verisign (US)
.edu = Educause & Verisign (US)
.gov = GSA which is literally based in DC

Up until maybe last decade, all the major tlds were pretty much US sites. Non US sites usually had some abbreviated version of those tlds plus country code.
.co.uk
.co.ca
.ac.jp (ac.ademic)
.ne.jp
.edu.au
etc..

So if you had a .com/.net/.org/etc, it was pretty much guaranteed to be a US site
>>
>>53445278
Apparently anyone can register a domain there for free with few restrictions (ie. no popular-brand-name.tk) So it's a haven for scammers needing a domain.
>>
>>53445330
I'm pretty sure that in the Netherlands .com is also very popular. Before 2003 private individuals weren't even allowed to register .nl as it was reserved for companies.

Ausy? I didn't realize Australia adopted the US constitution and it's amendments.

Even if the the guy was in the US, a specific threat or warning is one of the things specifically precluded from the first amendment rights of free speech.

Why aren't other (TLD) domains free or at least reasonably priced, or why there is no one price for every TLD, hosting each one costs the same... why ICANN is allowing this shitty madness. Why hoarding domains for reselling is allowed:(
>>
>>53449783
>not remotely funny
>"i-it's supposed to be a joke, haha right guys xD"

This much backpedaling shouldn't even be legal.
>>
>>53449813
because the companies who own them are huge jews
.tk may be "free" but they make money by doing shady shit like randomly taking away people's .tk domains with respectable traffic and replacing them with ads
>>
>>53449845
I'm not the guy who posted it and I thought it was funny.

I'm just asking if you people have legit autism to the point where you didn't even _recognize_ it as being a joke.

I mean, it doesn't matter if it was funny or not - there's no justification to completely sperg out like “B-B-B-BUT TOKELAU ISN'T A SUPERPOWER!” as if that /wasn't/ somehow the joke.
>>
If i get FREE .tk domain for 12 month will i eb able to renew it for free for next 12 months before it expires or do i have to pay for the following year?
>>
>>53449848
Then why ICANN won't do their shit and make .tk a legit place?
It might be a free do ain but they should still apply to law.
>>
>>53450043
you can renew it for free, but don't rely on .tk free domains for anything important, they can and will cancel them randomly if you're unlucky
also use freenom instead of dottk, they have more free ones (like .ga and .ml)

>>53450055
no fucking idea
the whole domain business is pants-on-head retarded
>>
>>53435300
>mfw pooland has more registrations than US.
>>
i wish domain names were free
>>
>>53435323
Restricted in what way? I live in middle Europe and I have a .us domain that required no paperwork whatsoever.
>>
is the huge collection of tk domains because they are offered for free to some extent?
>>
What is the cheapest way to own a domain (not rent)?
>>
>>53452441
.work seems to be one of the cheapest at the moment, first year $1, renewal $2
>>
>>53452495
>not rent
I mean, is there any way to own <name>.tld forever and if yes what is the cheapest option?
>>
>>53452531
no, limit is 10 years.
>>
>>53452531
Well you technically cannot OWN the domain, the same as you own your land or home or car.
ICANN can ALWAYS, come and take your domain if someone wins the dispute. They have abslute god-like power.
As a human being the closest to OWNing is to register your domain at some quality registrar who doesn't do stupid shit (like .tk does). Also too big registrars have terrible support (too big volume).
You could also gather some moneyz and become registrar yourself, which is pretty easy but requires moneyz. Then you cudl secure your domain in a bit better way. But never own.
Also >>53452568
>>
>>53435300
>.tk
lmao

I remember grabbing some .tk domain when I was like 12 y/o, doesn't surprise me how many they have considering how easy it was to make them and they were free
>>
>>53452568
>>53452598
Makes sense. Do corps get any special ICANN treatment when their decades are up? Like how does megacorp.tld keep its domain the same across time if it technically does not own it?
>>
>>53452652
>Do corps get any special ICANN
You always get special treatment and personal aid when you shit money.
> Like how does megacorp.tld keep its domain the same across time if it technically does not own it?
Same as above, plus they probably have a division of people taking care of that shit.
>>
