So, /g/ I'm about to preorder the HTC Vive VR and need literally the best card on the market so I get the absolute best out of it.

>inb4 wait a few months for the new cards

I can't wait tbhwy, since VR is less than a month away.

What is the single best graphics card right now?

also let's talk about VR. Are you interested in it? What headset will you be getting and why etc.

You'll be fine with a GeForce 7100 GS

If SLI drivers are same quality as they were when i had GTX 780 SLI just forget about them.

I'm currently using sing GTX 980ti which does it's job very well. If you need more memory then get Titan X.

Also some AMD setup might be good as well. I haven't had AMD card in +4 years so i can't give advice on them

get the card in a month. Whatever you purchase now has a chance of being significantly cheaper in a month from now.

2x 390 nonX in crossfire

also Vive, fuck shitty rift.

VR is the new way of milking money, do you have a fucking GTX 680? Ahaha you thought you had a high end card, but now is fucking low fidelity garbage. You have to spend 2000$ in a new high end card + skylake meme + conpatible motherboard + High watagge PSU + Windows 10 license + VR headset price + licenses of the vidya + electricity bill costs...

nah it's just the new "3d" for screens, the only thing that makes sense is google cardboard or similar

I'm considering a single r9 390x for my upcoming Vive because why not. My gtx770 won't cut it and I don't want to spend too much money in a new card for now. The AMD card should be able to last a while, and hopefully be easy to resale later on.

Clearly enough you don't have a high-end brain either. To bad you can not easily upgrade that part, that would have been quite useful in your case.

I'd recommend single card for maximum compatibility with new VR games, many of which won't be optimised for multi-GPU. Microstutter and driver glitches seem to occur more frequently in SLI/crossfire, which would be even more shit in VR.

That basically leaves the 980-ti and Fury-X.

980-tis are often faster as they tend to OC well. You'll probably get higher frame rates if you OC. But VR developers seem to prefer the Fury-X due to fine-grained preemption support, which should decrease latency/stutter. Maxwell was built as an ASIC for DX11 games plugged into a monitor so isn't nearly as flexible as the Fury's compute-based pipeline, so Fury cards will be better for longer with new technologies, like hardware accelerated VR work. So you might get a smoother experience with Fiji.

AMD's mantle-based liquid VR is better regarded than NVidia's Gameworks VR, but it's not clear if either will get used much anyway.

NVidia may well put out some killer drivers to improve Maxwell VR, but I think if you want a card built with VR in mind then you should wait for Pascal.

Go for a Fury, £50 more expensive but faster and new whereas the 390X's chip is over two years old. Therefore the drivers will be competitive for longer as AMD will rebrand Fiji and resale will be better.

Buying a Fury over a 390X now is like buying a 290 over a 7970 two years ago, ie, the sensible choice.

Vive, I think it's better kit.

AMD is fine till you get that inevitable game or update that shits itself on AMD cards.

Even if its not their fault, you are the one who has to deal with it.

Evil but reliable Nvidia is the way to go.

If it's just for porn the specs are not a big deal, right guys?

you need good FPS, otherwise it'd break the illusion very quickly
