So why the FUCK don't we have a full ganoo + loonix OS working on smartphones yet? Isn't Android just some gay apps + the Linux kernel? How hard can it be to just remove the android part and add some ganoo shit?

What are we waiting for?

Why am I not in bed yet?

Because no one wants it. Every Linux phone has been a miserable failure.

1. Freetards. They insist that the hardware must be open hardware. No proprietary blobs. This means the specs of any phone will basically be that of a potato.

2. No one gives a shit.

So, I mean, if you really want a Linux smartphone.... I've got a freerunner neo with Linux already installed. It's yours for just $350.

oh boy I just cannot wait until I can type into a terminal using a touchscreen to do basic tasks!

Everything I'd want to do on my freerunner neo works just fine with a GUI in Gentoo. I've never had to open a terminal directly on the device, though I have run a few commands over SSH for shits and laziness.

How come Android isn't based on GNU?
>>
>>53423943
It only uses the loonucs kernel, no ganoo.

Because google doesn't want that shit in their phones.

According to my cursory research, it's because glibc was considered too resource intensive for phones, so the most-of-but-not-all-of-POSIX bionic was created. Also because Google is not Free Software. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionic_%28software%29

But, all in all... I don't know. I find my answer dissatisfying on an emotional level. Perhaps we have wronged god in some way.

I don't think you understand what open hardware is.

Would not having GNU affect compatibility with existing Linux software if Google ever invested in x86 and made a full desktop OS?

We had it years ago. Microsoft literally spent billions to kill it. Nobody else has tried because of concerns that Microsoft would do to them the same thing that they did to Nokia, namely crash the company and loot their corpse.

It would. But google probably wouldn't want any of that shit in their desktop OS neither.

Mostly because the average phone is a completely closed, proprietary system with no drivers for anything but Linux.

There are phones that can run Linux, but yours isn't one of them most likely.

technically you cant get away from binary blobs or nonfree tech on phones because of the programming for radio tech/antennas

I would really like to see what it will be like with convergence. Maybe programing will be easier than usine the smartphone keyboard.
And ssh works perfectly

On a similar note, I'm still waiting for a BSD-based phone. BSD can be ridiculously lightweight, which makes it a great fit for low-power mobile devices. It already has decent ARM support due to its prevalence in NAS units, routers, etc...
