Any /g/ents heard of wire?
It's meant as a replacement for whatsapp, skype, facebook, etc, etc. It's end to end encryption is why I want to try it, also group chats support up to 128 people.

This seems better than discord's alleged data mining conversations all the time too.

>Any /g/ents heard of wire?
No, ergo it's shit and will always be shit.
Go to work and pay for a phone bill if you give a fuck about companies spying on you.
>>
>>53418673
Is it centralized? Is it free software? If no to either, then why the fuck should I care?
>>
>>53418726
It's open source, uses OTR, WebRTC for calls, video and audio, more precisely it uses DTLS for key negotiation and authentication, while using SRTP for encrypted media transport.

I don't know about centralized.
>>
>>53418712
Perhaps give it a chance, christ..
>>
>>53418803
I can't. I don't know anyone who gives a fuck.

what about jitsi?
>>
I just made an account
Looks alright I guess. It's at least better than shit like Whatsapp because it doesn't require a phone number and has a desktop application with a fair amount of features.
But I have no idea how well it works because no one uses it
>>
>>53418783
>WebRTC for calls, video and audio
That part, at least, is P2P.

Are you even white?
Get a job and say that to anyone in your company.
>>
So I'm going through the tutorial... The program itself looks good, but the tutorial was referencing the mobile app or something when I was using the desktop version.
>>
>>53419494
I was using the desktop application myself, deleted the account, deleting your information is what I like the best, simple and straight forward, you get an e-mail, confirm that you requested deletion and done, within minutes everything is gone.

I love that you can view your own key fingerprint and ID of your device too.

ex-skype members (probably before microsoft shoved their dick up their asses) made this. it provides E2EE without fail it seems.
>>
>>53418673
looks nice,
most articles are from december 2014 when it launched, and at this point they had end-to-end only for voice, but it seems that is added now by using otr

source is hosted here https://github.com/wireapp
but it seems they re only library parts, couldnt find the whole app and cant say if its complete
>>
>>53419531
It is definitely a Skype replacement unlike Discord. Discord is more like a Team speak replacement in my eyes. Wire certainly has potential - It looks good, easy to use and is a "real" Skype replacement unlike Discord and Team speak.
>>
>>53419737
group call is limited to 5 tho
>>
How is Tox doing? Do they have mobile voice chat yet?
>>
Why is Skype constantly running in the background on Windows 10? I never installed it. I try to disable it but it keeps coming back.
>>
>>53419737
>>53419821
Yes, perhaps, they will improve this later, like they did with skype, I believe max is 12 now on Skype. But for chat, maximum of 128 people can participate.
>>
>>53419821
It's still functionally the same as Skype, just with some limitations. I rarely have convos with more than 5 people but I'll gladly take that trade off for a faster client and removal of ads. Teamspeak is my goto program for large conversations if I have them.
>>
>>53419841
>How is Tox doing?
Like every other project started/shilled by /g/.
It's dead as shit but at least they have a nice logo.
>>
>>53419895
It seems it is still being activelly developed,though...
>>
>>53420381
And yet nobody is using it.
Without proper marketing budget all neckbeards working on it can go suck dick.
>>
>>53418803
/g/ gave itself a fucking chance at creating a replacement and look what happened there

Can this be used on Linux?
Can it be used only for texting and not VOIP or video?
Will it work routed over Tor (UDP/TCP complications)?
Does using it in a web browser make it any less secure or more vulnerable than if it were used as a its own lone desktop client?
>>
>>53420687
>Can this be used on Linux?
Yes
>Can it be used only for texting and not VOIP or video?
Yes

Probably?
>Does using it in a web browser make it any less secure or more vulnerable than if it were used as a its own lone desktop client?
I dunno
>>
MUMBLE

jesus christ, you idiots
>>
>>53420687
bump for this
>>
>>53420879
Screams FOSS design(ie. Looks like shit) and is not a skype replacement. It's another Teamspeak replacement like Discord.
>>
>>53418712
>pay for a phone bill if you give a fuck about companies spying on you.
>he doesn't know about telco mandatory metadata retention.
>>
>>53419845
>max 12 on Skype
Nope. Use it for WoW with 30 people. Can confirm it's definitely more, at least for audio. What's audio calling tops on this? I need a replacement since a lot of us hate Skype's resource hogging but love the clarity when not using push-to-talk.
>>
>>53420879
Mumble has terrible voice quality.
>>
>>53422630
That largely depends on the servers settings.
>>
>>53418673
Sounds too good to be true, where does the money for this kind of projects even come from?
>>
>>53422909
VC, or maybe TLAs. Sometimes both.

All you need is a few non-retards working on the software for a while and you release it when it's done.

Skype has two advantages:
-ability to make calls to POTS
-tons of people already have skype or know about it and think it's safe

Privacy is semi-fashionable now, so maybe it'll give them a bit of an edge against skype.
>>
>>53420395
/g/ was using it for a while there
I've even used it on occasion but it still needs quite a bit of work
>>
>>53423595
>>53420395
I used it with friends for a while, It was fun. Some people on other parts of the net use it here and there.

toxic had a nice interface, can't say I felt much for the other clients.
