How long does it take to learn to touch type?
I've been a pecker forever.
>>
Depends on how important it is to you. When I first started with computers (11 years old) I was typing at 100wpm within 1 year. Now, 7 years later, sitting at around 135-150 depending on the day. But this didn't just happen because I wanted it to, I practiced typing explicitly quite often and for long periods of time. Best of luck m8~
>>
A week, a couple of months, depends on how much you practice. Pick up typing of the dead. Worked a treat for me.

Typing of the dead looks really cool, thanks.

devote an hour a day to it and in about a week you'll be ok at it

Took a typing class in middle school, went from pecking to doing 60-70 wpm in about a year. Best thing about it is that it forces you to learn where each key is through muscle memory so you don't have to make a conscious effort to memorize each key.

Yeah peckers aren't very good for typing. Might want to try using your fingers.

Play runescape for a year. Don't use an auto typer. You'll learn to type naturally.

No words have ever been more true.

>I took a typing class in high school.
>I was just really fucking good at it naturally.
>People often would watch me type, "lol, what?"
>tfw I just realized it was the fact I played fucking Runescape.

Damn.

You learn to type real quickly when your computer crashes while you're in the middle of the wilderness, and you need to log back in very quick because the game takes a while to actually register that you're no longer sending back packets.
>>
How are there people on 4chan that can't touch type? I just don't understand it.

But you're right, rs makes you an excellent typist. I'd imagine I could have pushed 200wpm desperately logging back in.

Started to kinda-sorta get a sense of where keys were in middle school, took a touch-typing class in 8th grade because I had to take something. Not that my WPM is that great.
>>
>>53404845
Yeah it's even more difficult when your pecker is still developing. Can't reach the function keys and such.
>>
>>53401724
get a keyboard with no characters on it.

>Never learned how to type "properly"

I started typing in 5th grade when I started playing runescape. I've pecked with a few other fingers here and there until about 6 months ago. I'm 21 now.

Literally the only thing that caused me to begin touch typing is looking at a simple image on /g/ that highlighted where your fingers go. I looked at it, and thought it makes so much sense, it doesn't even need to be 'learned'. I've been touch typing ever since and can do so just as fast as pecking (I could peck at ~100 wpm). The only thing that stopped me from learning to touch type was the fact that there were typing classes in school and I assumed this was because typing properly isn't a straightforward process; it is.
