Why is the 2 year old LG G3 still able to compete with flagships today???
-quad core 2.5 Ghz
-3gb ram (32gb)
-5.5" IPS display in 1440p
-Removable 300mAh battery
-Expandable storage
-Wireless charging
-Android M
-plus KnockOn which is fucking amazing
Better than any Memesung™ phones
Why dont you own a G3 /g/?

Nsa has rootkitted iPhones, must assume any other phones are as well

Also various apps hotmic, check your permissions

Stingray is also a thing

This isn't true is it?

LG really needs a rebrand. Does anyone else automatically associate LG with meh, so-so electronics?

Except for LGs shitty attempt at android, its not a bad phone.

I know Apple has infected iShits, and CarrierIQ does the rest, but I thought the NSA's involvement only extended to monitoring cellular communications.

I always check app permissions, nothing goes unnoticed.

I'll have to look into Stingray, haven't heard of it.

The G3 would still be the perfect phone if it had a 1080p screen that the SD801 could handle, and the phone shipped with AOSP instead of LG's deplorable excuse for a UI.

It was sad to hear they won't be focusing on any more Nexus devices in the foreseeable future.

I can buy G3 for $250 is there any reason why should i spend some extra money and buy G4 for $360 now? Is there any reason to do so?

Yes, get a G4. V10 is best LG phone out currently (except for Nexus 5X) but G4 is a close second.

>-quad core 2.5 Ghz
For a few seconds then it underclocks and throttles unless you fiddle with settings or go as far as disassembling it and adding thermal interface between the SoC and screen frame
>-3gb ram (32gb)
Pretty common
>-5.5" IPS display in 1440p
With fucking oversharpening making it look worse than 1080p
At least it can be fixed
>-Removable 300mAh battery

Those should be mandatory on all phones to be honest
>-Android M
>-plus KnockOn which is fucking amazing
A lot of phones have those, don't they?

I like my G3, but it's such a bad phone out of the box.
>>
>-Wireless charging

Only with that garbage power mat system.
Qi is not supported unless you have the korean variant iirc
>>
>>53364974
European version has Qi.
>>
>>53364912
Recaptcha fine for me.

The 5X is an excellent phone, it's only downside being a slightly smaller battery and 1GB less of RAM.

That said, it's not power-hungry like LG's devices always are. It will effectively run better, last longer, etc. This with Google's pure Android and timely updates will make for an excellent experience.

My next phone will be a Nexus 6P, the other Nexus device released late last year.
>>
>>53364953
This.

Stock and unmodified, it's awful.

Rooted and ROM-ed, it's a much better device that still suffers from a slightly underpowered hardware combination.
>>
>>53364974
Both the G3 and G4 have Qi on tmobile variant

Ive had the G2-G4 and they are quite easily the best phones on the market.

The camera on the G4 out performs my girlfriend's iPhone 6 which has finally opened her eyes about android being viable.

Most 3D apps (games) don't have any resolution settings and this kills performance completely.
What ROM do you use?

Also 6.0 killed compatibility with some apps I used and this annoys me to no end.
>>
How easy are these to root and install a ROM on though?
>>
>>53365159
Pretty easy, if you wish you can do everything entirely on the phone.
There are one click root solutions on XDA, if those don't work Kingroot works after which you can instal AutoRec which installs a custom recovery for you.
The ROM I use ( >>53365125 ) is based on stock and has a graphical installer where you chose thermal throttling settings and which default apps to remove
>>
>>53364974
buy the 10$ back on amazon
>>
>>53365125
I'd call myself a ROM-jumper. My longest use is a month.

I've always used AOSP/CM ROMs, LG-based ones make me sick. For 5.0 my go-to was Illusion (discontinued), for 5.1 I most loved AOSPA-Legacy and Exodus, and my only dip into 6.0 is AICP. Good, but has some bugs and it lacks SoT/stability. Doze is nice.

Keep in mind my preference is battery life/stability over features. I'm tired of ROMs that have OMYGAWUD MUH KUSTOMIZATUN but last for 2 hours.
>>
>>53365561
>CM ROMs,
Tried CM on the second day I had the phone and it ran like crap, and lacked the features of the stock ROM.
>>
>>53365594
Oh yes, Cyanogenmod is shit. It's become an inside joke with the rushed release of 5.0 to be first to the game. It was a bad year overall for ROMs.

ROMs that use some CM code are always better than actual CM nightlies. My preference is ROMs that use no CM code, as they always perform best.
>>
>>53365662
I like the stock features though.
Still gets about 50k on Antutu
>>
>>53365759
Personally I can't stand the UI. That's just me.

AOSP-based ROMs have more customization, but do lack features (multi-window, etc.). Still worth it to me.
>>

>>Android M
>>A lot of phones have those, don't they?
Lmao no
>>
>>53364208
Actually agree with the 1080p screen. Is there even a difference at all between 1440p and 1080p at this small of a size? You can't run any 3D games or programs because of it and it makes the battery worse. I love my G3 but its battery sucks. Latest marshmallow update helped a little though.
>>
>>53366358
Agreed. The MM update patched bugs LG had created, but you can't push the hardware.
>>
>>53366358
Oh, and I find it hard to notice the resolution difference. I can change it to 1080p for better performance (doesn't save battery), but the lower resolution is only slightly noticeable and only when coming from 1440p. In other words, you don't notice the difference unless directly comparing the two. A 20" computer monitor though, that's a different story. A phone screen is too small.

I really hope the trend with 2k, 4k, etc. phones dies off, or at least waits until battery capacity takes a leap forward.
>>
>>53363980
Literally over powered to this day.
>>
Cell phones have stagnated.

The g3 is still a competitive phone and still has one of the best screen to body ratios on the market.
>>
i still use my G3, it's a great phone. i don't plan to upgrade until atleast next year.
>>
I have a stock G4 and it's power hungry as hell.
Still like the phone, the camera is legit and the display is nice.
The CPU gets hot as hell sometimes.

LG gave out free extra batteries, charging station, and leather back last year. It's nice to have a fresh battery at all times.
>>
>>53363980
>case cracks on ALL phones
Seriously, look up any G3 on ebay, they will be cracked at the top and bottom (microphone and headphone port)
>>
>>53363980
Bad example, QHD destroys GPU performance. Even g2 is more competitive, and nexus 6 has been plain flagship tier until SD820 phones arrived.
>>
This is a fucking meme, you piece of shit.

I just upgraded to a Note 5, and oh boy, it sure was a huge jump.

G3
-Terrible Battery Life
-Painfully slow and laggy
-Bloated LG UI
-No 6.0 update yet
-Everything Crashes
-Gets very hot

I was crazy to get rid of it.
Ever since I got the Note, I have been much, much happier.
>>
>>53366556
Agreed, these screens are way too small to benefit from 2k or 4k. ONLY plus side is if you are actually looking an zooming in 2k or 4k photos and that is such a small group that why bother?

I have been getting overheating issues lately though and just in time for the g5 so we will see where it goes.

I do have an lg g3, its not a perfect phone but an extended battery fixes the battery life (i get 8+sot now), cm13 is a much nicer experience then lg roms IMO, adding thermal pads to the cpu helped significantly with temperature, a magnetic micro usb cables make charging much more convenient. My last issue is the digitizer comes unglued easily

G4 is better in every way (except for bezel size) and also the best hardware for price phone on the market right now, but up until the bootloop issues arrived I am seriously doubting if its a good phone or not.

I wanted to upgrade to it myself but I don't know if its worth the risk since LG will only cover the issues if they occur during warranty. Which is a real shame since its a really solid high end phone for the price.

I have a Galaxy S6. I had one for a week and the mic started acting all shitty, no one could hear me. I tried cleaning it with compressed air, factory reset, clearing cache, etc.

Returned it and got another one. Now it's doing the same thing.

Is samsung shit now or do I just have bad luck? I'm going in tomorrow to hopefully exchange it. Should I get another S6 and hope it's not defective, or try something else?
>>
>>53372077
Try and return it and get a g4 or v10 or g5 if you want to pay extra
>>
>>53372077
Probably bad luck.
Just go look up G4 vs S6 reviews on YouTube and decide which is a better fit.
Personally I think the G4 is better than the v10 when it comes down to it.

I've been debating the G4 (with an extended battery as an option) or the Xperia Z5 (which I love the Sony aesthetic and like the idea of being the only person in America with that phone because I like being a trend-setter)
Is the Z5 a viable option in comparison to the G4 other than the battery issue?

I've been on the fence with this shit since January and I'm becoming a total Bazingachan about it.

There's the X Pro which is the high-end one, but honestly, it looks sorta like an iPhone 6. It's not terrible, but it's not perfect like the Z5.
If they made a Z5 with the SD820, I'd be sold, but that 810 shit which pretty much ruined every 2015 cellphone is what bothers me.
