>can't even watch the source code
neither can you for androids, see those binary blobs.

not that this matters at all for security.
you want real audits and for that, source code isn't really needed.

>sent from my secure tablet (with march 1st patch)
if it isn't a currently supported Nexus by Google it isn't secure.

all custom roms are shit and insecure like
a. using publicly known private keys for signatures in your OS. breaking android's security model
b. only partially applying those patches from google because google only supports their kernels and custom roms use something else completely.
c. binary blobs

>>

>>can't even watch the source code
that's true for all Android devices too.
the only devices where source code is almost completely available (not only the kernel due to GPL2) are AOSP devices. but no device ships with AOSP (Nexus' android build already includes Google proprietary bits like their Play Service) and you will still need binary blobs anyway.

Half of your args are "kk" so maybe try to think a bit more. I have had an iPhone 4S and I can say it was great, it was easy to use, have had it for 3 years. Probably the best design of any iPhone for me, except for the small screen. But compare the 6s and plus to Samsung S7, fuck its a real competition, its jist a choice of yours. Samsung phones suck with their touvhwiz. Look at LG. Look at fucking xiaomi, amazing job. Meizu, OnePlus, Sony, HTC, Motorola, they do win

>CyanogenMod is a testing ground for new features and is perpetually broken in all kinds of new and exciting ways. It lacks a focus on security and AOSP has much better code review and higher standards for code quality. Support for devices outside of the Nexus line tends to be quite broken with no guarantees of continued support and the lack of monthly security updates from the vendors is a dealbreaker due to device specific proprietary components. The drastic changes and broad device support in CyanogenMod also hold back new version upgrades for months.
https://copperhead.co/blog/2016/02/08/beta

case in point:
https://android-review.googlesource.com/#/c/22694/
money quote from Google to CM:
>To be honest, if you are needing to protect against that case then you are building your device incorrectly. The certificates used to build any apps, as well as the system itself, must be kept private. If you don't do that, you have a very broken device as far as security goes. We definitely should not be hacking on the package manager here to deal with such a case, since this is only the tip of the iceberg of the problems a device like this creates.

>Except that many ROMs base on CM.
more like all ROMs use device trees from CM.
except for Nexus where one can directly base from AOSP

>Anyway they are crazy fast with updates
CM takes usually ~4 months for somewhat stable major Android update with the major CM features.

OPO still didn't get an official Marshmallow update while even the slow OEMs like Sony have it out now.
>>
>>53368070
I know ot doesnt have 6.0 officialy becuase it runs crappy CM OS instead of nightly. I have had 6.0 since the first build and im sure it was earlier than 4 months
>>
>>53368116
but early nightlies are like alpha software and basically pure AOSP without any CM features. Even then they weren't very fast: like 2 months late.

Further Google would never allow any official OEM to push such updates that don't pass CTS.

Back in 2012, google announced the N10 as the most open device released by them. The only blobs it uses are for WLAN, BT, NFC, the camera ISP, GPU and voice preprocessing. The remaining libraries are fully open. Still, it requires closed binaries, but much less than other devices.
