No I used Arch before.
>>
>>53349344
How does it feel installing a win/macfag distro?

>Gentoo developer prefers Windows and Chrome, avoids Linux: https://usesthis.com/interviews/daniel.robbins/
>>
>>53349344
why tho
>>
>>53349450
That guy's a funtoo dev, not a gentoo dev. He abandoned the project awhile ago.
>>
>>53349466
Source-based distributions intrigue me, but I could never get Guix working properly.
>>
>>53349450
On desktops. Who said OP was installing it on her desktop? Gentoo is a god-tier server OS.

You got MEME'd mate. Gentoo is not a functional OS.
>>
>>53349344
why not hardened?
>>
>>53350319
Security is of secondary importance to me compared to up-to-date-ness.
>>
>>53350385
hardened or not you'll have access to the latest and greatest in the repos, speaking of which, if you want to be absolutely bleeding edge then Arch would be the better option.

I'm now approaching Hour 3 of compiling x11.

I now understand why source based package managers are not as popular as binary based managers.
>>
>>53351037
it should not be taking that long with your CPU unless you're recompiling GCC/glibc or some such as well
>>
>>53351273
Yeah I'm pretty sure some other shit got sucked up in there as well...it said there's 163 packages, currently on 148, which I think is 'ctest' but I'm not really sure.
>>
>>53350428
Can arch packages track git releases?
>>
>>53351303
AUR packages can and do.
>>
There are still people not running hardened kernels on here.
Grsecurity/PaX is great.
>>
>>53349344
has it crashed yet?

Especially when you get to spend half an hour hand-editing diffs to make your GPU drivers compile

Nope. Just finished the world update, it's going smoothly so far.

Dunno what that means but it doesn't look like anything broke so I'm just going to go ahead and ignore it.

There were a couple other warnings claiming that I didn't have a kernel so other installations wouldn't work right, but I actually don't have a kernel so I guess I can safely ignore them.

Gentoo users everyone
>>
After my first install of Gentoo i wrote a script that autoinstalls with luks on lvm requires me only typing password, then i happly migrated all my VMs to Gentoo

It means your kernel configuration is missing that setting. (You did configure your kernel, right? go back and add that option)

>but I actually don't have a kernel so I guess I can safely ignore them.
Does your OS run on magic fairy pixie dust?

>>53351894
I'm still installing it. I hadn't gotten to kernel configuration/compilation yet.
>>
>>53351937
Are you following the order outlined in the installation handbook?

Pretty sure that one covers kernel configuration _before_ installing arbitrary user packages
>>
>>53352001
it doesn't matter
>>
>>53352001
Yes. The image I posted was of the tail end of the @world update which is listed just prior to kernel configuration, after profile selection.
