That's why you never use rm -r like that unless you're VERY careful. The safe way to do it is to cd into the directory you want to nuke and do it from there. Should've done something likecd /var/lib/postgresql
sudo rm -r *
cd ..
sudo rmdir postgresql
Also, you should've just removed this shit with a package manager. Only go in manually if you have no choice.
