>buy thinkpad t420
>install Linux
>everything just werks out of the box
>install windows 7
>barely anything works, no WiFi to install drivers, almost no hardware is detected and running properly

Why the fuck can't windows be as good as Linux at this? Just installed 600mb of lenovo firmware on top of windows 7, just to even match Linux out of the box support

Did you installed a distro released in 2009, just like Windows 7?
>>
>>53335644
Haha OP.btfo
>>
>>53335335
cool story, bro

but the T420 was literally designed for W7, there is no reason for it to not have drivers for everything unless you're retarded and don't know how to install drivers

Windows 10 might have been believable, but no you're dumb

>>53335659
Distro released back in 2009 may not be officially supported while windows 7 is
>>
>>53335644
Nice meme senpai, the computer itself is essentially from 2009, windows 7 should work well.
>muh windows 7 isn't supported even though it officially is till 2020
>>
>>53335697
The drivers were all there and it works now (worse than Linux), but I had to install the drivers off a USB, nothing worked with just windows 7.
>>
>>53335731
And by there I mean on lenovo's site, I was having issues because it was a clean install that didn't come preloaded with lenovo's firmware.

Don't you think that's a feature of Windows 7? We are talking about driver detection and installation after installing an OS, not about the support. Windows 7 support doesn't mean it will get the drivers when you install it, but that the OS will get security updates til 2020

>>53335709
>windows 7 should work well
Indeed, it should... after you install the drivers. Based on this, a distro released in 2009 should work well too. But OP isn't trying a 2009 distro, isn't?
>>
>>53335781
Of course, why would you use an officially unsupported OS? Is it wrong to expect driver detection in a "supported OS"?

Want me to install ubuntu 12.04 just to prove a point?

>using a clusterfuck generic driver reverse engineered by freetards in their basement with broken features and dodgy workaround on loonix
>compared to official drivers from the hardware manufacturer especially designed for laptop hardware

Gee OP I wonder why they don't bundle every driver in existence in a Win7 ISO.

Laptops have unique hardware you fucking cuck, and drivers become rapidly out of date on Windows, because they're actively worked on. That's why Microsoft only includes drivers for the most popular hardware by default on install media.

The fact you didn't slipstream the drivers you need into your Win7 install media proves you don't know how to use technology, and ergo you shouldn't be here.

Get the fuck off my board.

OP already did.
>>
>>53335858
Funnily enough, I never had issues with the drivers you're so critical of.
>>
>>53335819
You are confused. "Supported OS" doesn't mean "OS that will detect and install the drivers of the PC I am installing"
>>
>>53336029
So no windows version guarantees ootb hardware supports?

Thinkpads come barebones so companies can have their own OS image loaded onto it with the necessary drivers.
