Can we have a moment of silence for the loss of our beloved office suite that was faithful and true for so many years. R.I.P. 2010
>>
>>53304864

ok moment of silence is over, does anyone else agree that 2013 and beyond is absolute trash in comparison to the perfection of 2010?
>>
>>53304864
2003 was better

jokes aside, I tried LibreOffice again last month. It's pretty good now, but I have no excuse to use an office suite.

>tfw you used to be able to just put the serial number in and it worked

Do you do any actual work, or do you just write your Women's Studies essays in Word?

I don't know if this only happens to me but libreoffice is painfully slow on windows but butter smooth on Linux

iWork, LibreOffice, and even google docs are better than office now.

Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2016 is great. Your 2010 is not.

OneNote 2016 is great. They fixed that image copying not working bug and you can even embed web videos from what I've heard.

'09 or the newest version? Because Apple trashed it after '09.

This is a fairly decent comparison, but adding things up and giving them scores is just retarded.

Who cares about market share? Why is high market share better than low market share? If you use compatible file formats, it does not matter what program your coworkers use.

How does it make any sense to just count up the number of components? Many of the components are not even vaguely comparable. The MS Office equation editor counts as a separate program, but all of (for example) iWork has equation editors built in. But this comparison says more components = better.

Lumping mobile, browser, and desktop versions together and just summing their scores is idiotic. The fact that there is a mobile version does not make the desktop version better, and vice-versa.
Hell, with Office even the desktop versions have little to do with each other. The Windows and OS X versions look totally different.

It's a good feature comparison, but just ignore the scores. They are meaningless.
>>
>>53311308
Yes, because secretaries and office people all over the world can easily learn a complex markup language which you have to compile.
>>
>>53311308
I agree, but LaTeX isn't perfect. LaTeX beats Word in every way for advanced users, but Word is easier to use.

But Word still sucks for beginners, since a simple word processor (e.g. Wordpad or AbiWord) is even easier to use.
>>
>>53305209
What can Excel do that Python doesn't do better?
>>

>>
>>53311324
What the fuck kind of analogy is that? Are you retarded?
>>
>>53311710
Python wouldn't be my first choice. It's not made for statistics. It's a scripting language and is really pretty bad for numeric work.

R would be my first choice. R is amazing at what it does. It does data storage and processing more quickly and easily than Excel. And it is great at visualization, while Excel's visualizations are disgusting.

>>53305369
Having a job doesn't mean you're doing work. I absolutely believe that most office workers use Excel, but they aren't getting half as much done as they could if they used a decent system. Putting in effort without accomplishing much is not doing work in my opinion.
>>
>>53311658
Same opinion. The scores are meaningless. I don't think the market share was included in the score though.
>>
Luckily I'm an adult so I no longer need trash like that
>>
It is absolute garbage. I have to use this shit for work every day and I hate it. My retard coworkers refuse to just use plain text even when it is very obviously the right format.
>>
>>53311457
Maybe he meant something like "Word will get you where you're going if that's all you're trying to do, but LaTeX is a good foundation for you to live in if you spend a lot of time in data processing". idk, though, it's still kind of a flimsy analogy.

ultimate rtf editor

how can you even be productive with a toolbar that takes all the fucking screen? this is retarded as hell.

RIP Word, last good was Office 2003.

>>53313653
yeah it's not bad, but for a whole pack, i really prefer Openoff'

>>53311658
High market share is a positive thing for literally any technology.

Less compatibility issues.
More information.
More templates and examples.
More people with the same problem as you.

Frankly, that should be weighted even higher.
