I always like to use multiple HDD's. You wouldn't store all your papers in one file folder would you? If you don't have a lot of stuff, then this should be just fine.

My WD just started dying after about 2 years. That's what happens with a small sample size. The data from datacentres, on the other hand, show that WD's reliability is going down while Seagate's has improved, even overtaking WD on some models.
HGST shits on everyone, even though they're technically owned by WD.

They're slower, cooler, and more energy efficient. Great for extra storage, not so great for performance or for OS.

If you mean this graph talking about seagate improving it's based off of a poor data period for seagate ownership; seagate are as shitty as ever but there weren't enough people reporting them at all to report failure in the 2015 period. Seagate got a free 0% failure rate even though the drives are the same line that had a 20-40% failure rate in 2013/2014
