but if games are your thing then quadros are not 4 u, because they are not at all optimized for games. they're mainly for like 250 programs that are designed for that specific card. u could spend about half as much to get just as much gaming performance.
also, they're clocked low with high fan speed, and selected as the cream of the gpu die crop from nvidia directly, with better quality control and warranty.
and more expensive. the m4000 is reasonable. the m5000 is 1800 bucks. the m6000 is 4500 bucks.

These cards don't really need to support SLI, you could have seven of these in your system and if you use the kinds of applications they were designed for, they will all be detected and will all contribute to processing without the need of an SLI bridge. Even if you use cards which do support SLI, it's often recommended to disconnect the SLI bridge before using them for compute.

It has 8GB of ECC RAM, no memes here. Unlike video games, if professional software runs out of video RAM, shit hits the fan, which is why even a 970-tier card has to have that much memory. You can never have too much memory in 3D design and rendering. The Titan X could allow for scenes twice as large as what a 980 Ti can support, so its not all about speed or price efficiency.

Well, for compute purposes, memory bandwidth is largely irrelevant, since nothing in memory is being swapped; everything is loaded in at the start. In that regard, the latency added by a physical interface wouldn't be a huge detriment to performance, but this is far too niche of a use case scenario. For massive compute jobs Nvidia already have single-chip cards with 24GB of RAM.

A 980 Ti with custom cooler is going to be faster than a Titan X despite having fewer cores and RAM. A Titan X is still a good choice for compute if you're sure that you might run into a RAM limit having "only" 6GB, but if you need that kind of capability, you wouldn't really be asking for advice on /g/.

i've seen a lot of graphs saying the 980ti is faster, but everyone who uses them in comparison says the titan x is better, it gets higher quality and fps at higher resolutions, ESPECIALLY 4k.
