I bought mine after that when I returned my 390x because the proprietary linux drivers were old and required me to downgrade xorg ,gave me alot of shit with vaapi and were constantly outperformed by nvidia cards of much lower tiers in benchmarks.

No you didnt, lol. Maybe 280, not 230
>>
>>53143385
Yeah, no. The high-end consumer cards are:

390X<980<Fury<FuryX=980ti
and the Titan X and 295X2, I guess, that will be replaced by FuryX2 soon.

The 970 is a budget 980, focusing on price/performance and is in the high mid-end.

Why people still buy 970s over 390s though is a bit baffling. I guess NVidia has better marketing.
>>
>>53143637
I guess their gpus perform better, run cooler and have more compatibility.

Depends on the GPU, friend. In some matchups NVidia is better, some AMD is better.

For example, in the penultimate tier of cards, the Fury-air shits on the 980, even when both are OC'd. However, in the next tier up, the Fury-X sweats buckets keeping up with an OC'd 980-ti.
>>
>>53143607
So you think people buy 970s for 3D modeling though? I feel like that isn't going to be a problem for 99% of people who are buying the meme70

Kek, you do know that AMD high end cards overclock like fucking crazy, right? With proper cooling you can get a stable 15-20%
>>
I have an old ATI Radeon with 512MB from like 2003, it's such a piece of shit. It doesn't even compare to my GTX970; that's why I bought one.

I didn't know about the 3.5gb thing until after, though. I was kinda fanny frustrated about that.

[Non-cherrypicked in-game benchmarks needed]
The Fury isn't even supposed to compete with the 980, the Fury X was supposed to beat the titan x and the fury the 980ti and the 390x the 980.

AMD could sell a much faster and a cooler card with a lower process size than NVidia, and gamer kiddies will still buy the NVidia one.

>cheapest 980 = 525€, cheapest fury = 595€
My Fury cost me 419.99 GBP which is 534.43 EUR? So not a lot in it.

>>Performance: R9 Fury > GTX 980
>same as above [when OCed ... usually has 10-40% more fps]

Let's overthink this. My OC'd Fury gets 10-15% extra performance than stock depending on the game (voltage unlocked, which plenty of reviewers didn't wait for).

I'm guessing a 980 gets about 20% more than stock when OC'd? But since the Fury is about 10-15% faster than the 980 at stock, I'd wager there would be very little difference and it would depend on the individual silicon which one ultimately got the lead.

If you want to talk real advantages of the 980, it does indeed consume less power than the Fury.

Second NVidia GPU for Linux is also in use for playing with CUDA (GPU passthrough setup, windows is in a VM) so PCIe slots run at x8 + x8.

Actually this story made me asked a question since many guys told that on the forum
>i5 is for gaming

How true is that ? Is it also a question of price/performances ?
>>

Everyone getting a consumer i7 is an idiot. If you really need hyperthreading or more cores, then get a 5820k or whatever the Broadwell-E equivalent is when it comes out. You could argue that they OC better, but I don't think a few hundred MHz is worth an almost $100 premium.
