Are there any other phones like this out there? I'm looking to unplug but still would like to be able to be reached via text and phone.
>>53142298
What's so modern and special about that one? Just buy a Nokia 515 for half the price.
>>53142344
oh, absolutely nothing. I'm just woefully uneducated as to what options are available. Thanks for the suggestion.

What's your motivation for unplugging if you don't mind?

Is the Nokia 515 actually available from any reputable US dealers?
I've been trying to find a decent dumbphone for my mother but not having much luck. Apparently some of the Nokias (like the 220 which seems to be much easier to get in the US) do not support Bluetooth headsets, which is a feature she needs.
>>53142298
why don't you just get a smartphone and don't buy a data plan
are you autistic or something?
I'd rather have a modern version of the N900 series hardware. I'll never forgive Microsoft for killing off the best phones ever made.

He probably doesn't need the phone Internet and doesn't play gaymes on his phone,
and wants his phone to have functionlaity for the basic functions he needs while retaining a gigantic battery life where he only needs to charge it every 10-20 days.
Which means smartphones can suck dick in his case.
>>53143288
smartphones have just as much battery life as dumb phones if you leave them and never use them
>>53143298
Depends on the phone.
Older smartphones have this property, newer ones don't.
>>53143298
:)
whatever you say cunt
>>53142799
what is the point of this? you can already get phones with that form factor for like $20.
>>53143298
You mean if you turn the screen intensity to 1% and spend 5 hours deleting and destroying anything and everything unrelated to messages and phone calls in the process list.
Are you seriously saying a phone with 4 times more screen and 10 times more constantly running processes due to the nature of its system, is the same as a dumbphone?
Why don't you say a lamp emits as much light as the Sun. If you are gonna go retard, go full.
>>53143353
I'm sorry, I never used shitty carrier locked phones infested with bloatware so I never experience this issue. My smartphone drains 5% on idle every day.
>>53143380
What phone do you have?
Just buy a random ass burner phone from wal-mart. Put it in one of those lead cases if you're paranoid.
are there smartphones with a physical keyboard?
>>53143380
I have a smartphone for personal use, and a Nokia dumbphone specifically for work related calls that is almost never idle.
The dumbphone lasts me 4 weeks of at least an hour of calls daily and tons of messages before needing to recharge it.
As far as your case goes, i don't even know why you have a smartphone since you are basically saying its purpose is to pick up dust.

Would you r8 it 8/8?
recently bought a samsung keystone whatever to replace my nokia, it's OK for 20 eurodollars.
>>53142298
That phone is aesthetic but 300 bucks what the fuck you can get a nexus 5X for that
Do they make feature phones that can play OGG Vorbis?
>>53142298
I wish I could find a phone like that with Qi wireless charging for under $150
$300 is ridiculous for the amount of functionality
>>53142298
I might actually like this phone if the buttons didn't look like they came from a calculator. And if it didn't have that terrible angled hump on the back. And if it didn't cost $330.
>>53142298
Get a StarTAC and recell the battery.
The Nokia 515 looks so fucking comfy. I wish there was a phone in that form factor that ran android.

I really want to do this. I spent hours trying to figure out a viable option. Do you have any advice for someone who wants to do this on AT&T?

Get the later GSM model, I've got a battery from a Gopro Hero 2 on the way to replace the 20 year old Lithium cell.

There are only a couple models of StarTAC, the 7000g and 8000g, that use the GSM 1900 band and can still be used on GSM networks in the US. Back when StarTACs were made, the US did not have much in the way of GSM networks, and because the US uses different frequencies, European GSM StarTACs do not work on US networks.
AT&T uses both GSM 850 and 1900 bands, and no StarTACs were made with 850. I'm not sure how AT&T's networks are set up, exactly, in regards to if certain areas use 850 or 1900, but it seems like a gamble to me. As far as I know, T-Mobile only uses 1900, so that would probably be a more reliable option.
Alternatively, I've read that Page Plus (which uses Verizon's network) will still activate old Verizon CDMA StarTACs, even though Verizon will refuse due to them lacking E-911 capability.

I've seen very bulky feature phones that double up as a powerbank. It couls probably last you months without charging considering that it's just a basic phone with a fuckton of battery life due to the powerbank function.
