Who here has that person in their family that is so full of /g/ misinformation that it makes you cringe? For me it's my uncle.

>be with my Uncle and Brother watching a movie on Blu-Ray
>brother asks why it's called Blu-Ray
>Uncle says because they added more blue to the picture to make it have better darks and more HD
>didn't even want to correct him cause it was too funny

>be having dinner one day
>he asks "if they can bend light to make curved TVs then why can't they make invisibility cloaks?"

>"I won't ever buy anything other than Apple products. They are made in the USA."

>"How do you like that Edward Snowden? He's the anti-christ spilling government secrets and then running away to live with them Muslim terrorists. He wants to see America burn"

>"What's the best anti-virus? I got 3 on here but I know they know how to get around them."
>>
>>53136068
>but I know they know how to get around them.

he is right about this one
>>
>>53136068
>What's the best anti-virus?
Gentoo
>>
My mom is stupid enough to attempt to help and get dissapointed. My sister is an egghead booksmart bitch but retarded as fuck at anything else so she's halfway. My dad is full retard so attempting to help him would go wrong before any sort of possibility of help at all was achieved.
>>
>>53136068

My brother. He's a doctor. He has a friend who is even worse, also a doctor. So my brother get his shit-information from the other doctor and the diarrhea tornado gets entangled. Who gets to be the lucky sonofabitch to clean up the mess? You're looking at him. The IT guy turned accountant.
Dumb things my brother did: paid $40 for a "video conversion software" that does less than Handbrake. It has broken English in the menus and crashes. Bought a Windows laptop to RDP into the hospital's server. Yes, there are several RDP clients for Mac. The list goes on.

That's a pretty easy one to counter now.

I am that person.
I really enjoy spewing believable bullshit and seeing everyone gobble it up. It's even funnier seeing my tech savvy relatives squirm cause they know I'm doing it on purpose.
>>
I've had some of those moments with my grandmother. I installed Flash on her computer (this was back when you needed it) and she claims that it "broke" her browser. My favorite was always the "Stop slowing down this computer with those games" routine.

My sister, I told her to not mess up my computer I was making for her by just not touching it because if static. The next day her boyfriend came over and picked up all 8 sticks of ram, she told him "No, static can break them really easy" he responded with "Only if you touch the gold piece." And broke about 3 of the sticks of ram
>>
>>53142472
But ram doesn't broke with static. i used magnetizes screwdriver to remove my ram and i was fine...
>>
>>53136068

Thankfully no one in my family is this brain dead or at least no one pretends to know what they're talking about.

However, what gets to me is when users come to my department at my job because they are either clueless or fucked something up, and then they question us on whether we're right or not. Bitch, you do your job and I'll do mine.
>>
>>53142472
>>53142565
stop this at once
>>
>>53142565

The whole magnet-breaking-computers thing is grossly exaggerated. In reality, you need a fairly strong magnet from the likes of a speaker or the like for it to actually do something damaging.

For windows that is.

i only use windows for gaymen and adobeshit, there's no need for antivirus if you keep windows contained.
>>
>>53143685
you could use a vm'ed browser, if you care that much
other than that just keep using trustable software
>>
>>53143942
>you could use a vm'ed browser, if you care that much
I don't care that much but I want some basic protection since I'm in a network with retards and some times have to use USB sticks of retards with files I'm not 100% certain about.
Of course I could use VMs for the USB part and a good firewall but I'd just like a nice and handy anti-virus software that notifies me as soon as something is smelling.

>>
>>53143685
Like the other anon, I just use Windows for Steam gaymen, so no need for protection. Before I made the switch to Fedora however I used 8 for like a year without any antivirus. Never encountered any problems, all you need is a little Common Senseâ„¢

>Why does it matter what I use it for?! That's a private matter!

Microsoft Security Essentials, because if you do anything but play games on Windows, then you're doing it wrong.

I shitpost on my Windows laptop sometimes.
>>
>>53148628
128GB for a lot of DSLRs is perfectly reasonable.

On my Sony A7ii, for example, I can only shoot just over 2000 photos on a 128GB SD card. Mind you, this is shooting uncompressed RAW, which most people don't shoot in.

My idiot cousin bought a 4k monitor and is running it at 1080p from a Radeon HD 6450 (but it has 2 gigabytes of RAM so it's as HD as you can get, he says). He has a gaming keyboard with red LEDs and a 12 button mouse for no good reason. He cheats at CS:GO and gets banned repeatedly and doesn't learn from that either.

My mother thinks the internet controls whether or not her laptop works.
Said person spilled soda on it and only got it covered under warranty once and did the same shit again.

Really, one has to wonder, i think, to keep it going..

Too bad Im not with that second chick. But at least I can program in just about any language now. Feels good, man.

pretty much anything in education has to say about computers.

" hackers are evil terrorists and should be shot " well I mean I've met a few that _should_ be shot, but still. This is how _everyone_ thinks.

" wow linux is for commies " /pirates mp3s

the hypocrisy. it's real. everyone on the internet is a redneck hick that does entirely too many drugs, and I'm tired of using it for this reason. I barely even post here anymore because the internet now has less active domains than when arpanet was around. seriously. if you just had a vax that held wikipedia on it, and facebook on a tops-20 machine, that would be the entire internet, and no one would care. why google even exists anymore but to be used as a pointer to wiki and porn results, is beyond me.

Holy shit this rustles my jimmies, I had a customer today that wanted to upgrade her XP shitbox and when I told her it was too old to upgrade she asked if Norton would make her computer go faster.

My dad has been an IT guy for decades. He might not be up to date with with a lot of things but he's pretty damn knowledgeable.

My mom is the complete opposite. She doesn't understand ctrl+copy (or even using the right mouse click menu) and every time I show it to her she forgets it the next day.
I can't really blame her, because she has become completely resistant to ANY info regarding technology thanks to my dad. He has the nasty tendency to go way too in-depth and talk about completely unrelated shit when explaining a very simple thing or answering a question, so she stopped bothering trying to learn thanks to him.
