can somebody explain me diffirence between Gtx970 msi gaming and the white msi gtx970 (picrel) ?
>>
they both have 3.5gb and you're a cuck if you buy them
>>

/thread.
>>
That's not a 970.
>>
>>53134956
they have 4 gb
stop this meme
>>
>>53134977
Look it up retard, they have 3.5g of memory at a high speed and after that 0.5gb of vram that operates at a much lower speed
>Ramgate.wmv
Educate yourself, motherfucker
>>
I assume only one has a tiger on the box?
>>
>>53135046
and...
that changes nothing
its still a great card

One runs on tiger power and one runs on dragon power.
>>
Get a R9 390 instead op, it will only become better from this point on as a contrast to the GTX970. And it's cheaper and better in some games currently, plus is has room for overclocking.
>>
>>53134937
Price I'm pretty sure.
Just buy a shapphire/MSI 390 instead
/thread
>>
>>53135105
Loud, hot, and power hungry. Not worth it at 1080p.
>>
>>53135061
Okay, keep telling yourself that, cuck. :^)
>>
>>53135105
>my psu wont handle it
>i already had two amd's gpu, hd 6850 and r9 280. I was disappointed of both
>drivers
Thanks. But i'd rather go with nvidia this time
>>
>>53135112
>Loud
OK Mr. sensitive ears. I vet you can hear your hard drives
>hot
negligible. card runs in thermal limits. overheating would not be an issue
>power hungry
a 500w PSU can power both the gtx 970 and r9 390. if you have anything lower than that, you should upgrade your PSU anyways. also if you can't afford the slightly raised power bill, off yourself
>>
>>53135112
>loud
>hot
>power hungry

First of all it's only loud if you set the fan speed to 100%, which in 99% of cases you won't be needing them past 75%.

Second, this card runs cool during every single game you'll realistically be using it for. I run AAA titles and high graphics benchmarks and never hit above 60c at 75% Fan speed (3000 rpm).

Third, the power draw is also only slightly higher than the 970 so that arguement is completely retarded.

How about you actually own the card and get out of that easy-bake oven you call a room before you shit post about a really good card.
>>
>>53135105

Eh, not sure I would recommend. Got the R9 390 and loaded Fallout 4. Compass fucked up (known issue for this card some website put out fix) and crashes every 10min or so. Game just shuts down.

This is the same game that runs perfectly at very high settings on bootcamp on mac pro 08 with gtx 680 (mac ed) card. That's just embarrassing.
>>
>>53135212
>power draw is also only slightly higher than the 970
>148W vs 275W
This is what amdfags actually believe
>>
So, is it worth getting a 390 now? I do sort of need it now for SF5 but I assume it will drop in price when Polaris comes out. Will there be new cards out for similar prices as current 390? Not looking to shell out loads of cash for the new cards, even if they are great.
>>
>>53135245
Nvidia and AMD measure the power draw differently.
Nvidia uses an average.
AMD uses the maximum that it can draw on stock power limit.
>>
>>53135375
SDP vs TDP

AMD basically gives worst case at turbo clocks.

Nvidia gives average case at stock clocks.

Hawaii still sucks down more power, but it's within 30 watts typically.
>>
>>53135425
Ah, thanks.
I basically had to make an educated guess based on the power draw benches I could find.
>>
>>53135243
>blaming bethesdas incompetence on the GPU

There are some problems, but there are also workarounds. Just don't judge the entire card on one rather mediocre game.
>>
>>53135112
>>53135212
I'm sending a Saphire R9 390 back because it literally turned the room into a greenhouse. Was decent for 1080p games.. Still lagged a bit with MSAA on games like GTA 5, The Witcher 3 (my cpu is i5 6600k, ram is 3000mhz ddr4).

I honestly feel graphics cards at the moment are overpriced and nothing more than marketing gimmicks. I had to question who the fuck needs 5 HDMI ports on a card designed for gaming? Also, the graphics cards are so big now that they droop.. Potentially damaging your PCI-Express slot, motherboard or other components.

I'm happy with my GTX 750 Ti. I had to get rid of the R9 because the price isn't justified just for the game to look slightly better.

Even if you have an expendable income for this graphics card, personally I'm going to wait for something good to be released.
>>
>>53135691
Also, I played Fallout 4 on the Sapphire r9 390 that Im returning and it played flawlessly with max graphics. Still the occasional bit of slow down. I think AMD drivers have something to do with it, in CS:GO there seems to be a kind of 'input lag', which just isn't there with nVidia.
>>
>>53135693
I'm going to build a PC soon and I'm going to get a MSI 390 Gaming 8gb because of the built-in OC function and also because it seems like they're the most competent ones.
>>
>>53135708
Personally I'm not playing either of those games, currently and I'm looking at Tarkov, Arma 2/3 and Perhaps Dark Souls 3 when I get my 390. Not saying that makes it better, but if I can get away with not supporting nVidia, then that's the best choice for me.
>>
>>53135061
It can actually cause unpredictable behavior situationally and along with several other scandals plus superior alternatives completely eliminates the 970 as a reasonable purchase for literally anyone at any budget

I pushed my MSI 970 over 3.5 just to see what would happen, it does weird things, card's cucked, I'm sorry
>>
>>53135717
Any graphics card can be OC'd really, and the software packaged with many brands (MSI, Gigabyte, EVGA, Gainward) etc is crap/bloatware.

It's a powerful card, don't get me wrong, and is more powerful than a GTX 970 for slightly less money. My opinion is anything greater than say a gtx 950 isn't really worth it for 1080p.
>>
>>53135708
The input lag in CS:GO can be caused by a million things. Not a widely known problem whatsoever with the card.
>>
>>53135762
I was going to use afterburner anyway, which should be really good.

It's just that MSI supposedly is better at coping with the OC'ing than other brands.
>>
>>53135772
That's fair enough. It is a 'known problem' relating to 'flip queue size'. I am unsure if this is similar to nVidia's pre-rendererd frames setting. However, with even this changed, the card wasn't suited for the game or engine at a competitive level. The FPS drops are bigger than the gtx 750 Ti.

The HL2 engine is 10+ years old, ok... How on Earth can a brand new graphics card not handle that super efficiently like I'd expect?
>>
Is it really that hard to just not go over that 3.5gb? Most of 970's owners are not worrying about it
>>
>>53135816
I don't know exactly what happens with CS:GO, but my guess is that these newer Cards are much better at performing DX11/12 games, than older games.

I love mine, runs cool, doesn't reliably overclock much so I pretty much run it stock now
>>

Quick question.

What reason is there to not just buy a 390 and overlock it? Instead of wasting another 100$ the 390x

Which r9 390 should i buy then?

Use DDU and then the 16.1.1 hot fix driver.
>>
>>53136171

I have a life, I ain't got time to overclock shit like some nerd, I only got time to play games, it was only $359
>>
>>53135046
While you're correct in that it technically has 4GB total, the 0.5GB clocked at the lower speed makes it near-unusable in gaming if you play a game that requires MORE than 3.5GB.

It was a shitty thing to do on nVidia's part, mostly. Market it at 4GB, which they fucking KNEW everyone would take to mean '4GB at full speed', and then when they were called out on it, went 'Oh, oh, oh. Sorry guys, no, like, we know that 0.5GB is slow, but you've still got the full 4GB, so we didn't see the need to let anybody know that there was a speed difference at 3.5GB"

if you already have a decent GPU now, why the rush? I'd wait if you have something as good or better than a 750ti. 4K Monitors are still expensive after all.

i'm considering going for a horizontal case next time just because of this even if they are designed for that flexibility

They directly lied about the ROP count and cache amount. Even if it has the full 4gb technically, they still advertised it as having 64 ROP's and 2048kb of cache rather than the actual 56 ROP's and 1792kb of cache.

If i have a old cpu (i5 2500 non k)should i still take r9 390 or gtx 970?
>>
>>53135112

Bullshit. I had a 390 for a while (XFX DD one) and it never went above 70C and was not loud at all. My GTX 770 from ASUS was much louder.
>>
I got my 970 on sale, would never buy it full price.

This
I have a Windforce 3 gtx 970 and i don't have any problems even after loading ram more than 3.5gb
>>
does 3.5 gigamemes only affect higher resolutions? i've got a 1080p monitor and my EVGA 970 has been fine
>>
>>53137097
There's literally no way you can use more than 3.5gb on 1080p
>>
>>53135061
>buying a faulty product on purpose
Gaymez can already use nearly 4gb on 1080p. Don't forget that it shits the bed whe you use 3.5+gb of vram.
>>
>>53137097

Its already demanding in new games like Tomb Raider.

R9 390 win against 970 because most of the time 970 strangely never used more than 3.5Gb when you play that game.
>>
>>53137119

>I don't know shit about shit but I'm going to say shit anyways!
>>
>>53136738
It will likely hang itself if you put r9 390 in it
go with 970 if you're not scared of 3.5gb (which is not a big deal if you can agree with mind that in next 2 years you might want to lower textures resolution)
