For productivity large format 16:9 displays are better because you want the vertical space as much as the horizontal. Nothing is better to work on than a large format 40" 2160p display. you will never find yourself wishing "I had a smaller screen for these programs" or "I wish I could see fewer lines of code" but with a 21:9 display you will find yourself wanting a taller display.

I really want one as well, one of the 34 inch ones. The expense doesn't bother me, I'm just bothered by the fact that a lot of content (particularly games) aren't supported on a 21:9 screen so you get black bars which defeats the whole purpose. Otherwise I'd pick one up with no hesitation.

Yes, that is part of what attracted me to a large format display. It is very like having multiple tall monitors but without the bezel. Once you realize that you can have a windows as large as most people's monitors you start to really understand the benefits.
For home use there is the added benefit that most content and games are designed around a 16:9 display.

Yea if you currently have 24" and buy the 25" 21:9 but if you arn't retarded, you will get the 29" then it's exactly the same size as 24" heightwise + added pixels.
I'm currently using 3440x1440 and it took me 3 months to find used one in my country. I really really like it but no way I would pay $1000+ for it just because it's new and cool. Paid $550 and it's the best monitor I've ever used (had low end 4k's, high end 4k's, 144hz's and they are all great but most newer games require too much gpu power and why would you use 4k if you gonna play in 1080p, not mentioningf that windows isn't really ready yet and fucks up a lot)

A 40" 21:9 is basically a wider 32" 16/9 monitor. Since 30"-32" monitors have existed for years it should only be logical to go this path. 40" 4k 16/9 monitors are already a thing but it's a bit too high for my taste.
