I had a macbook pro. Good machine. I had just one problem: could not change the battery. Do not get a macbook unless you live near an Apple store, because they will have to change that battery. Same goes for hard drives and ram.

As much as I love my thinkpad, the trackpoint is shit and honestly not worth the $1000 I paid for it when a few more would have gotten me a MBP.

Also the battery really isn't as good as people make it sound. Maybe that's Windows 10, but I don't like it. I'd take OSX as long as I can still play Hearthstone, do my assignments, and netflix/porn/4chan.

I am a web developer who uses a macbook pro for work, hooked up to a 4k monitor. I also have a full beard and I wear checkered shirts. I'm trying to get a standing desk, lose weight, and find a qt asian girlfriend to complete the stereotype

Macbook pro has a nice UX all round, even the unboxing is 'an experience'. Good build quality and attention to detail as you would expect, IOS is easy to use, the only thing that fucks me up is the command key since I'm used to holding ctrl for everything, but you get used to it.

The charger cable fell out one morning when I shuffled it around my desk, and I carried on working all day without noticing until about 4pm when I looked at the time and also saw the battery was on red. The battery apparently lasts for over 10 hours even while running a 4k monitor at full resolution.

Its nice but I wouldn't buy one for personal use due to my own tight-ass frugality.
>>
It seems like you're already set on getting one OP. Don't start Mac threads on /g/. It just turns into thinkpad macbook shit flinging.
>>
>>53121828

I have one (MBP Retina 13" late 2013) that I got primarily because of work but I've grown super fond of it. It's solidly constructed, stable, reliable and meets my needs well.

They're expensive but worth it IMO.

Macs won't let you go clamshell mode unless you plug the power in. The best you can do is turn the brightness off. Oh yeah and it also won't go to an external display without forcing the dedicated gpu which doesn't make any sense either

My 2011 macbook had its sd card reader break after 4 uses. Now all it does is scratch the leads on the card and not read anythihg.

Oh yeah, and if the battery runs out and the thing goes into hibernate mode, when it wakes up the mouse and keyboard won't work even after plugging an external one in so I have to do a hard reboot.
>>
Don't buy one. The build quality is actually pretty much the same as other ultrabooks with windows on them. The problem is people will label you as a homosexual if they see you with it. My gay friend has a shitload of apple products. But if you are a homo then disregard what I said, but make sure to carry around a laptop cable lock with you in your purse at all times if you go outside with your macbook.

Decent build quality as always, well, getting slightly worse because Apple has been prioritizing thinness over structural integrity a little more each generation, but not to a point where it hurts much, yet. The software quality is going down the tubes in a severe sort of way. Apple just doesn't care to fix longstanding problems in OS X and they keep adding useless features nobody asked for.

The Surface line is the only viable macbook alternative in terms of built quality that I enjoy right now.
>>
Late 2013 rMPB & x220 owner here.

The MacBook was worth every penny, however is it worth £1000 more than my thinkpad cost me? Probably not.

If you can comfortably afford the MacBook do it, if the money is a stretch or you're financing it. Just get a thinkpad or elitebook.

What is wrong with your brain? The ram is now already maxed out so you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to have apple drop in generic crucial shit. But have fun paying $400 for an ssd upgrade.
>>
>>53123748
> $400 for an ssd upgrade
Why would I want an SSD upgrade? the moment I paid for the machine I knew 256GB of PCIe SSD is more than enough for me.

In 5 years I will upgrade my whole laptop so no point for slowly upgrading shit since technology moves on and you can't upgrade GPU's or CPU's to new gen on old sockets on ANY laptop ever anyways...

This upgradeability meme is just poorfags excuse for being too poor to afford and already maxed out machine.

Tadah, you got a Mac pro but without a screen that will fuck up or the keyboard that will fill up with your semen

Seriously though the build quality is pretty rickety. Go check for yourself at the Apple store.

The retina Macbook Pro is likely to get an update in the middle of March. There's a lot of talk about them updating the processors and the GPU.

If you're absolutely set on getting a rMBP, wait it out a little longer because the new ones will be out. Then, you can either get the latest model or get the older model for cheap.

I have one from 2007 and the lifespan is more like 3-4 years. After 5 years, you're definitely going to be out of luck.

I also had a PowerBook and only 1 month after I bought it, Apple discontinued support for PowerPC completely. That laptop was obsolete before I even carried it out of the store.

Beautiful hardware but shit company. Shame that Sony got rid of their Vaio lineup.
