Windows is just so, so bad at disk I/O that you're looking at a major speed penalty compared to Linux or *BSD or Illumos on bare metal. Seriously, Fedora with a full-weight DE and full disk encryption with LUKS is a LOT faster at disk I/O than the Windows install it dual boots with.
