I'm thinking of getting an iPhone to replace this shitty S4 i'm stuck with
>>

i bet ur one of those cunts that says safari is the best browser.
>>
>>53105304
When will Hiroshima finally ban all user agents coming from iPhones?
>>
>>53105304
This...isn't wrong.
>>
>>53105389

hence why easy windows is to pirate.
>>
>>53105389

Except it is. Reason why Linux adoption is low is because Linux is shit.
>>
>>53105422

You think linux sucks? Or the consumerized OSes that use it?
>>
>>53105422
It's correlation, not base levels.

It's also not new. I'm writing a paper on it that references a decade old paper that runs that exact regresion.
>>
>>53105370
Why would you ban your largest demographic and generator of ad revenue?
>>
what is the logic behind that?
Because piracy exist people don't want to use open source alternatives?

"Let's buy a Tesla, it is open source. The patents are freely available and everyone can check how it works."
"No we should not, there exist people who copy cars and distribute it. Which is why we only should get proprietary cars where we don't understand the technology"
>>
>>53105304
meh.
Baby duck syndrome hurts it more.
>>
>>53105495
>Because piracy exist people don't want to use open source alternatives?
Exactly. Everyone uses and knows Windows, so they try to get that for free. If they can't, they use linux.
>>
>>53105451
Linux is buggy, insecure garbage and so are its derivatives.
>>
>>53105497
that's just a symptom. Preinstalls is what really kills linux, and that's just a symptom of MS pushing their weight around. Linux has made great strides in usability.
>>
>>53105494

iNiggers are a minority here. And they sure aren't going to be clicking J-list ads more than the average neckbeard.
>>
>>53105571
>Linux has made great strides in usability.

Wrong. GNOME3 and KDE4 is a regression from GNOME2 circa-2007.
>>
>>53105529
that is stupid. Every Linux user can easily get windows for free , people use linux because it's better.
>>
>>53105606
maybe for powerusers, but average joe why-is-the-keyboard-so-important schmoe loves it.

>>53105617
see above.

S4 is a great phone, it's just old as shit.
>>
>>53105647
>average joe why-is-the-keyboard-so-important schmoe loves it.

No they fucking don't lol.
>>
>>53105667
there are anecdotes for both sides to the argument, but it's at least what they're aiming at.
>>
>>53105550
so is windows and osx.

tl;dr all OSes suck cocks
>>
>>53105650
Mine's still going strong, no problems with it at all really, besides maybe once a week the power button goes fucky for a few minutes
>>
>>53105304
No shit.
How many winniggers does think winbglows is worth paying all that money? On top of that pay for MS Office, Photoshop and other shits you use.

Most of winniggers have no experience of legally owning (or leasing) a paid software. They just pirate those and steal others' licenses.
>>
Linux is (and linux distros are) a difficult to use piece of shit. The vast majority of developers are shut-in, mentally deranged programming nerds who have not given use cases and user interface design a single shred of consideration and have no notion of visual ergonomics or basic aesthetics. Even the most basic operations require typing in obscure commands and reading pages after pages of terse documentation. Nothing is standardized and nothing is interoperable since everyone of them are out coding for themselves.

How much software is really shipped by boat?
>>

>>
>>53106684

Literally the reason why KDE exists
>>
>>53106267
Imagine how many kids would actually use photo shop if they had to pay for it, vs just learning to use Gimp.

I don't care how shit you think gimp is, if it's a choice between that, and the massive amount of money for PS, people will choose gimp 99 out of 100 times.

That's also why adobe never cracks down on pirates.
>>
>>53106684
Most Linux distros are, basically, a bunch of (barely working) applications and kernel held together by duct tape. They simply don't work properly on non-standard environments and you can't modify parts of the system without breaking some functionality.

>>53107457
And that's the reason why also GNOME, XFCE, LXDE(and other DEs) exists. Lots of competing alternatives.
>>
>>53107636
Most non-KDE DEs don't go to the same extent to provide a standardized look and behaviour for applications.
>>
>>53107833
Gnome is starting to do this pretty well though.
>>
>>53107880
>buttons in window title bars
No they aren't
>>
>>53107571
I don't understand all the hate GIMP gets.

I'm newer at shopping images and have just been kind of learning as I go with GIMP and think it's fine and so far has been able to do anything I want it to with a little learning.
Is it just elitism because PS costs a shitload of money if you were to actually pay for it?
I hear people complain about the interface all the time but as somebody that has little experience with either I don't see how GIMP is much worse, if at all worse than photoshop.
>>
>>53107917
I've got a bunch of experience in both. I like GIMP better but the OSX port I have to use at work is a bit buggy (it's probably libpng's fault). I love to be able to script GIMP and not just have to rely on macros.
>>
>>53107917
Photoshop's interface is just as awful, they just have baby duck syndrome. Both would benefit from adopting more logical menu layouts like Paint.net or something.
>>
>>53105495
To quote Bill Gates in the 90s
>About 3 million computers get sold every year in China, but people don't pay for the software. Someday they will, though. As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.
>>53105577
>iNiggers are a minority here
Well, I suppose under a quarter of the userbase is a minority but it's still a reasonable chunk of the revenue.
>>
>>53105304
The closest I've ever come to pirating an OS was downloading a Windows 10 iso from Microsoft and using a key I found online.
Spoiler, Windows 10 is shit.
>>
>>53108050
But that "awful" UI is what PS users are used to. Changing it would only create trouble.

>>
>>53108159
There's a perfectly democratic way to solve that though - give people an option to customize it.
>>
>>53105667
I certainly do. I have little knowledge of computers and operating systems but things like Mint and Ubuntu are great for someone who wants to use Linux and doesnt want or know how to build the damn OS from scratch.
>>
Makes sense.
>>
>>53105550

That's damn fine work with them edges son.
>>
>>53107571
I started with paint.net as it was less overwhelming in terms of features. It's a great way to get your feet wet and figure out basics. After that you can switch to gimp and start doing more complicated things. I personally never go into PS, but I hear it's pretty good. I'm not doing anything too intense, so I don't see a need to buy it.
>>
>>53107917
>think it's fine and so far has been able to do anything I want it to with a little learning.
scenario that happens a lot when dealing with clients: add a shadow to an element. Then, several moves later, remove the shadow because the client changed his mind. You're fucked. There are several little quirks like that that make it not suitable for professional work.
For personal things Gimp is just fine though, there's no reason to use PS if you're not making money from it.

I swear, I read this same reply 13+ years ago, and every day since then.

Do you guys just go around mentally copy-pasting 'things' you read on the internet? wow. I am amazed at your ability to recall so many fine points of internet philosophy-majorism.

someone please talk about straw men, tin men, dorothy, and your little doge too. kthxbai

So basically the moment windows can't be pirated... And people actually are forced to pay for the ludicrously overpriced software...then and only then will be the year of the Linux desktop.

So Linux will reign when people no longer have a choice?
>>
>>53105422
But Linux is shit because nobody uses it for any profitable reason outside of the server realm. Of people had to use it or pay for insanely overpriced windows it would lend some serious financial impetus to make Linux less shit.

And thus Linux would be less shit
