No, they are not stuck. It's just the default setting. 1280x800 is a fine resolution for a 13" device and having it pixel doubled just means it looks even better, I fail to see the issue. My main laptop actually is 1280x800 at 12.1"

Let me try and break it down for you.
Broke is the opposite of working.
An apple product that does not power up does not work and thus is broke.
You bought them second (or third or fourth or . . . ) hand from an owner (or thief) who did not provide chargers. This indicates he either didn't have the chargers and didn't know if they worked (broke) or, for some unfathomable reason, reduced the price than is normal for known working products and kept the chargers for them that he knew worked.
It seems the previous is the only plausible conclusion.
In effect, because you did not know to the otherwise, you bought broke apple shit for cheap. You got lucky to find out that it was not as broke as it could have been. That all it took to fix them, to make them work, was to charge them up.
