Gorilla Glass 4 screen
1280x720 resolution
whole device is 4.5" diagonally unless this is an error
Mid range Qualcomm S617( 8 Cortex A53 cores)
3800mah battery, but nonremovable
MicroSD card slot
can handle being dropped on concrete from up to 1.8 meters
frame wont bend
3GB RAM
32GB internal storage standard
Wireless AC, GPS, and all the other typical bells and whistles

I should buy one just to play with the FLIR module and see what happens when I aim it at the laser bed when its cutting.
Current phone is a $40 shitheap on its last legs anyway.

iPhones do this gay shit where if you're texting someone else with an iPhone, it uses MMS instead of SMS. MMS is shown in blue chat bubbles and SMS is shown in green chat bubbles
For some reason, whores get triggered if whoever they're texting don't have blue chat bubbles
>>
>>53056522
You aren't thinking big enough. With a FLIR camera you can take thermal pictures of other people's boners and send them to everyone you know.

So if I just convert my text to MMS on android it'd show up not green? That seems kind of weird.

The green bubble thing seems way more like an internet meme though. I have never met anyone who has given two shits or even noticed a green bubble.

It is, the display alone is supposed to be 4.7"

And green bubbles are any SMS or MMS, the blue bubbles mean it was sent via iMessage to another iPhone user.

Basically iPhone users spent all their money on their phones as a status symbol and can no longer afford decent plans with texting included so they bitch about green bubbles.

I wonder what the temperature display range will be, I hope its better than the -20c to 120c of the FLIR One but that's probably unlikely.

It's a shame, some of the stuff I would like to try it on is in the 160-190c range.

>not working with your hands.

Gay man alert
>>
>>53056752
Being able to get a pretty accurate temp on something without needing to put a thermocouple on it is incredibly useful, especially for things that are hard to reach. Engine bays on large vehicles, generators, electric motors, electrical conduit, piping, all sorts of stuff. Cutting inch thick mild steel on a laser leaves it super hot, and big pieces stay hot for a long time. So much so that it can actually burn through a cardboard box if you package it up for shipping too quickly. Pulling out a phone and checking the temp in a split second is pretty handy.

Thermal cameras aren't really that accurate out of the box for measuring absolute temperature, they're good for measuring temperature differences.

Even then, you still need to calibrate your camera to whatever you're measuring if you want a truly accurate reading, since different materials have different emissivity properties. Thermal cameras usually come pre-calibrated out of the box for a best guess scenario.

I have to wonder how this phone will handle calibration, and if it has any facilities for that at all.

I'm not sure this will be useful for anyone who actually needs a thermal camera to do their job, but I can think of a couple of applications where it will help people who don't currently have a requirement for a thermal camera but could benefit from one. For example, HVAC installers or building inspectors.

Just like every other "active" phone for the last few years?

>expandable storage
A microSD slot like most phones have had for the last few years?

>thermal imaging camera
A useless gimmick for most of the smartphone market.

Let me guess. The next bit of advertising will be about a removable battery?
>>
>>53059822
It's supposed to be designed for tradesmen and the like, so the waterproof rating should be more than just 'splash resistant'
But it's hard to waterproof things cheaply when they need mics, speakers and connectors
>>
>>53059859
>It's supposed to be designed for tradesmen and the like
Then the OP's point of comparing it to popular smartphones was retarded?
>>
>>53056342
Waterpoofing isn't the same as water resistant. I don't know of any other waterproof phone.
Few phones have microSD slots. No iPhone has it, and I think Samsung has stopped including it as well.
>>
>>53059822
>waterproof to 5 meters
>expandable storage
>removable battery
These three should already be standard on every single phone sold these days, there's really no excuse to accept anything less.
>>
>>53059925
The S60 doesn't have a removable battery though.
>>
>>53059917
>Waterpoofing
Seems like there is loose usage of this term. IIRC some manufacturers use the term "water proof" if their products can prevent the entry of water to the internals of at least one atmosphere, or ten meters, under water. Others require far more depth. This phone doesn't claim to be water resistant to one atmo so it seems they merely call it waterproof based upon a rather limited standard.
>>
>>53059942
I know, there are hardly any phones on the market that have all three these days, and that's a damn shame.

Long ago I decided to vote with my wallet and buy only phones that meet 2 out of those 3 criteria, I wish more people cared so the manufactures would get the idea.
>>
>>53059984
I get why they're useful, but it's just cheaper to integrate the battery
It also makes waterproofing easier, sine you don't have a back cover to worry about
>>
>>53060046
Well, I know it's easier and cheaper to just integrate everything, but if I'm paying for a flagship device, I want top of the line with no compromises.

Hell, I'd probably be willing topay around $1500 for a phone that was rugged, waterproof, had expandable storage and removable battery, had flagship-level specs and came with standard Android and got updates to new versions.
>>
>>53060046
Sure, but standardized removable batteries are a must-have feature from my point of view as well. A while ago I was looking for a battery for my old Sony Ericsson to use it as backup phone. Original would have cost me 60€ (you can get the whole phone 2nd hand for less), chink knockoff was less than 5€ with free delivery.

Isn't that a European thing? You guys get unlimited 4g for 10 eurobucks a month or something
>>
>>53060252
It's not because of texting it's because the person they're talking too doesn't have an iPhone
>>
>>53060443
I guess it is, I used just my 3g for 2 years almost. Between 2 and 10 down and 2 to 5 up. I must have downloaded more than 100GB on a normal month and I only payed £15 a month for it (plus 15 a month for the phone). Only problem is now I cant upgrade if I want to keep unlimited 4G internet for this price. And fucking three mobile have the shittest call centres ever and wouldnt let me cancel. Not really a big deal since I still like the unlimited internet, i just have to pay for the phone again.
