It's just AMD shills, ignore them.

Well. I've never had a Nvidia's card but im tired of AMD (third card which got broken by overheating) and im going to switch to Geforce for once

Ive have personally tested a 2gb 380 and a 4gb 960 on farcry 4 and the 380 was a solid 5-6 FPS faster

you sir are a liar and a fraud
>>
GTX 750 Ti or 950 for muh 1080p 60fps with at least medium settings? Gon pair with an i3 4160
>>
>>53050983
This. The 950 is ALMOST as good at $50 less. The 970 is a shitload stronger than 960 for only $80- $100 more.
R9 380 is a fuckload stronger at the same price. Only reason to buy 960 is if you're too poorfag for a gtx 970, and you absolutely despise AMD.
>>
>>53050801
because it's actually less powerful than a GTX 670 from 4 years ago that you can find for $80 on ebay.

> at least until Nvidia drivers and JewWorks come into play, that is.

It's alright, it's just statistically not much better than the GTX 760 and the r9 380 is about the same price but generally a bit better. Depending on the game of course.

>>53050854
Also top fucking kek on that graph anon.

It's from a youtube video. In the description the guy says the numbers are correct but he uses an after-effects plugin to automatically make the graphs and it screwed up.

Is the stupid meme with the 960/380 debate true that 960 can be oc to beat the 380? That's all I hear form nivida side trying to defend the card
>>
>>53052436 that'll be a graph from one of LinusTechTips' videos. He gets good results but his graphs are shit.
>>
>>53052437
670 goes for ~$90 on auction, 960 is ~$150 for 2GB and ~$180 for 4GB.

That is stupidly higher for a slightly weaker chip.
A new 4GB 960 should be selling for $150 tops, not the ~$220 it actually is.
>>
The 380 may be a better card on paper, but the Goyworks and >AMD "drivers" makes the 960 still a better buy over the 360.

It's quite sad actually.
>>
>>53052583
its pretty ridiculous. Stock fan 760 is $120 at its cheapest (buy it now) on ebay when 960 and 380 are $150-180
>>
>>53052596
The 960 is too weak to use a lot of the game work fetures

Because AMD shills kept spamming misleading information about the price/performance ratio like they always do, and in light of the 970 3.5gb fiasco(which was actually a real issue and not a meme) it made their statements seem credible.

The 280x does reach a higher fps peak than the 960 in CERTAIN games, but what they don't say is how the 280x has a much larger variance in framerate than the nvidia, which continually gets worse as newer drivers are developed. It also takes twice the power to run the 280x than the 960. People here, and other sites, would knowingly compare the price of a reference 280x to a non-reference, third party 960 and then complain about the "huge" price difference.

Admittedly, the 280x was a year and half older than the 960, and the 960 was clearly priced too high at its inception, but not nearly at the scale most people were claiming. The 960 is a good card if you've been burned by AMD before, and would instead prefer a STABLE high/mid card that you could run off of a 250 watt power supply if you wanted.
>>
>>53052265
950 or 370. Depends on your games.
>>
>>53050801
It's not, but the 380 has more vram and is cheaper

If people actually understood what GameWorks fundamentally does, they would completely rage.

Its entire purpose is to bottleneck game performance in the tessellator and ROP units instead of the shader ALU array by flooding scenes with hundred of thousands of triangles substantially smaller than the ROP pixel block and avoiding overly complex pixel shading.

This means that the giant array of floating point adders/multiplier taking up the majority of the GPU is normally largely idle, which I guess you could argue saves some power, but it also means you're needlessly paying more for a bigger chip.

Things only really happened this way because AMD uses 4x4 pixel ROPs whereas Nvidia uses 2x4 pixel ROPs, which means that 1 pixel triangles only waste 88% of Nvidia's rasterization throughput but they can make AMD waste 94% of theirs on these tessellated surfaces.

I hope that AMD moves to more granular ROPs for Polaris if only to remove NVidia's incentive to fuck over everybody.
>>
>>53052557
That's pretty bs.
The main advantages of the 960 is it uses less power, and runs cooler and quieter for almost the same performance as a 380.
It's like 3fps slower and uses 2 thirds as much energy.

Both are great cards though.
>>
>>53052583
But on eBay those are used cards. They don't come with warranty or any guarantees. If it dies in 7 months you're fucked.

funny because nvidia is a total poorfaggot card

think of how niggers spend their money on retarded shit like bling. expensive designer clothing and large luxury suv's. they care about this shit but they are dirt poor.
that is basically nvidia

you have your typical stupid motherfucker who watches anime, they will purchase nvidia because dropping 800$ for 3 additional fps is totally cool.

meanwhile, people who actually are rich will purchase AMD because it is by far the best value for dollar.
the principal is not making a bad purchase decision.

both cards use the same hardware and materials, both are even made at the same factory. but one decides it should cost way more for no apparent reason.

this is called being cucked.
have owned both nvidia and AMD cards all my life. not a single issue with drivers or performance on any of them. the only real difference is price

and that is why nvidia users are fools
>>
no idea. it's a great card for 1080p gaming. it's obviously not meant to do much more than that.

Literally going on the internet and telling lies. Nvidia cards have MASSIVE stuttering and latency issues thanks to being starved of memory bandwidth.

TFW a 4 tear old GPU architecture is literally shagging a year and 4 month GPU in the ass, Nvidiots will defend this
>>
>>53054772
GCN is a substantially better designed architecture than Maxwell, which is basically a min/maxed piece of hardware predicated on the prevalence of games heavily relying on tessellation and hand-tuned shaders for every game.

GCN is more like a better executed Fermi: a very general computation focused chip.

I expect Polaris to be relatively unchanged, while Pascal might move back toward being shader ALU heavy, or it could toss more special fixed function units for things like transparency depth sorting, conservative rasterization, ... from D3D 12_1 feature sets.
The next several months should be very interesting.
>>
>>53053123

Purchase price somehow is a better value over your electric bill for the life of the card.

Idle power draw is pretty much the same between AMD and Nvidia, it's only if you're running at load 24x7x365 that you'd save a couple dollars/year on power with Nvidia.

Is it the same with processors? Intel is the nigger stock?
>>
>2016
>Using Nvidia
>Using Amd
>Not using a potatoe
>>
>>53056383

no because unlike nvidia vs. AMD, the performance of intel is actually noticeable

intel's are not made at TSMC
intel is not branding a magical bullshit pricetag while a real competitor using the same exact lithography and and piratically sharing the same wafer is doing the same exact thing for half the cost.

intel makes the best processors a consumer can buy, while nvidia is actually just full of shit

and there is a real ecosystem of nvidia faggotry too

anime is chinese scam
and so is nvidia
then you also have sony faggots and neogaf is basically the ring leader of all this.

so as you can see, nvidia is defended extra hard

>but toms hardware told me the GTX980ti was 15fps faster!!!
literally a scam
>>
>>53056660

its your perfect example of brand shilling and price hike

you have idiots who genuinely believe in the brand logo and the higher cost only reinforces the lie.

its the perfect way to scam people
its also fun as hell watching nvidia users drop the fuck out of a thread when you start droppin the truth
>>
>>53056782

so in essence this is really what makes nvidia buyers like a dumb nigger trying to be rich

just making a dumb uneducated move because of the brand and higher price (the "bling") while failing to realize that AMD is literally the same exact hardware.
architecture can only go so far in comparison to the actual core lithography being used.

AMD and nvidia architectures are different, but there is no real solid defining line between them.
AMDs are far better at doing some things, while nvidia is better at others. AMD actually does have the better architecture, you can especially see this when used as a compute card. And there really isn't a large justifiable difference in gaming . But as things change AMD will ultimately be the winner in the end. Their architecture and plan is actually better suited for the future.

The market hype of the nvidia pricetag really does fool people.
They have this chinese method of projecting this elite aura which is totally false and just scamming you.
>>
This is a pretty shitty thread, but I'll weigh in that I'm somewhat happy with my 4gb 960. I get 60 fps in all my games at high presets (not ultra) with all antialiasing off. Only game where it feels weak is Witcher 3, where it hovers at 45-50 fps and runs about 68c. I have not tried GTAV. That said it already feels "old" after a short 6 months with it. I'm already making settings lower to keep fps up.
>>
>>53050983

My 960 was free, in terms of price to performance, we're reaching infinity here. Certain companies are easy enough to SE to where I just kinda get cards when I'm curious about them. Most I've ever gone for was my 980 tho.

>>
>>53055079

I'll be very surprised if nvidia continues with maxwell's specialization approach. I think it's clear to everyone that its features focus heavily on gaming, but suffer on most of the remaining scenarios. Most importantly, I'd like to see how well they would keep up with maxwell's power consumption, if they roll back to a "multipurpose" gpu.
