There have been quite a few graphic cards over the years where you could bake them in an oven. It caused the solder to reflow and would fix some previous broken cards.

This is a tough spot to be in when in the market for a GPU it seems.
How about waiting to see how the new gen is received. Then, getting one if things go well or getting a current gen at a discount if it's better to wait for the second wave.

It's always good to wait for 2nd gens of new architecture, simply because firmware and drivers aren't up to snuff to take advantage of them.
Also they will be $1000+, I guarantee it. At least until they roll out the market and hobby versions. The primary market for GPUs isn't actually the vidya industry...

Sort of the same here. My taste in games has changed, although the desire is there to play many games I can only bring myself to play certain games. Usually I enjoy games with strong emphasis on story and a finite end. Looking forward to the next Deus Ex for sure, but old favorites like Star Craft fall by the wayside. Even if a new great Age of Empires was released I would probably never play it, and I was a huge AoE fan.

If you're going single-GPU, the only NVIDIA card worth it in its price range is the 980Ti. Below that, you can probably find a better deal on the AMD side.
That being said, buying at the ass-end of 28nm is pretty shitty, I'd say wait for Polaris and Pascal, but I guess you're shit out of luck and have no choice.

take off everything you can unscrew from the board.
ballance it on 3 teeny balls of tinfoil in the corners on a cookie sheet
bake at 375 (preheated) for 8-10 min.
Super carefully remove from oven, let sloooooowly cool (no fan) for 30 min.
Reassembly, new thermal paste, etc.
Its worked for me on 2/3 cards that died.

Not just graphics cards, remember the first xbox 360s? There were people wrapping them up in towels to achieve the same effect. That was a lot more hit or miss though, mainly because the idiots doing it got the orientation wrong making the problem worse instead of better.
