I use windows 8.1 embedded industry pro, it's tiny as fuck, faster than normal 8.1 and ten times easier to get for free. It's also bloat free( no metro apps at all). Gaming typically gets a few more fps too.

I only upgraded to 8.1 because it had better themes. Otherwise, it's fucking the same as Win7.
Is there any other viable alternative that isn't Loonix? Best looking Windows version, slightly less botnet than 10, no ugly, dated Aero hogging system resources, improved File Explorer, support for virtual disk drive, and faster than 7.
The only real drawbacks are the sidescreen charms and the start screen, but Classic Shell resolves the latter issue.

I installed 8.1 on my C2D legacy machines because it is faster and more responsive than any other version of Windows since XP.

Can confirm that works. However, be warned if you debotnetted Win 7 like I did. The Windows setup couldn't even detect my 4790K and said I didn't meet the hardware requirements. I had to do a clean install by booting off the disk.

8.1 came with my cheap tablet. It gets the exact amount of shit I expect done, and then some. I love it, and I'll probably keep it with 8.1 until it dies.
