Do people around here still use Windows 8.1?
>>
>>53043238
I only use Vista 32-bit :^)
>>
Probably, but they won't tell you because they are tired of Linux defense force with poo in loo memes.
>>
>>53043291
The issue comes with paying attention to those
>>
>>53043238
I do. Best balance between functionality and botnet. I'm planing to stick with it until the year of a linux desktop finally happens.
>>
I find it to be faster than 7 for work and it plays nice on our domain (unlike 10.)
>>
>>53043238
Yes, on my gaymen machine.
>>
>>53043238
Yeah I do. I'll upgrade to 10 this July before the free upgrade run out.

I only use the best version of Windows 8.1
>no telemetry update
>no annoying upgrade to windows 10 bullshit
>free with dreamspark
>>
>>53043238
I use windows 8.1 embedded industry pro, it's tiny as fuck, faster than normal 8.1 and ten times easier to get for free. It's also bloat free( no metro apps at all). Gaming typically gets a few more fps too.

Mfw there will never be a windows 10 industry pro.

I need more speed
>>
>>53043238
Yeah I do, it's pretty comfy and underrated. It's like Windows 10 but with slightly less botnet and it actually works.
>>
>>53043325
>I do. Best balance between functionality and botnet.

Isn't the best balance between functionality and botnet = all functionality and no botnet?

>I'm planing to stick with it until the year of a linux desktop finally happens.

$CURRENT-YEAR + 1

Year of the Linux desktop 2017!

>>
>>53043583
I use it too, but just so you're aware, it does get the telemetry update.
>>
>>53043265
Enjoy upgrading in a year
>>
Yes.

I only upgraded to 8.1 because it had better themes. Otherwise, it's fucking the same as Win7.
>>
Is there any other viable alternative that isn't Loonix? Best looking Windows version, slightly less botnet than 10, no ugly, dated Aero hogging system resources, improved File Explorer, support for virtual disk drive, and faster than 7.

The only real drawbacks are the sidescreen charms and the start screen, but Classic Shell resolves the latter issue.
>>
>>53045042
Oh, you're right, sorry.
I must have deleted the update with one those de-botnet scripts and forgot about it.
>>
>>53043238
I'm working a job ATM that's installing about 3000 computers with Windows 8.1. So yeah, I use it every night.
>>
>>53044208
>Isn't the best balance between functionality and botnet = all functionality and no botnet?
There is no non botnet Windows and Linux lacks in functionality so no. Win 8.1 is the best balance.
>>
>>53043595

Any benchmarks comparing regular 8.1 to embedded? I'm building a new system soon, was planning on reusing my 8.1 copy but if I can get a less bloated version that does the same shit I'm good.
>>
Objectively the best version of Windows
>>
I still use Windows vista ;-;
>>
>>53043667
I suggest somehow to find wallpaper fitting both screens. Work performance will go up 50%
This one is nice too desu
>>
I installed 8.1 on my C2D legacy machines because it is faster and more responsive than any other version of Windows since XP.

Why is it faster anyway? Did they do a lot of code refactoring when they ported Windows 8 to tablets (Windows RT)?
>>
>>53047689
Vista is almost the exact same experience as Windows 7 nowadays. It's been like that for years, since the last Vista service pack.

You can actually upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 without losing all your programs, profiles, documents and settings

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZQmVeoOaoA

kinda sketchy looking program that allows you to do it, but I used it over a year ago and I've seen nothing out of the ordinary

Yes, it's better than 7 and definitely 10.

Looks like russian-shit.

S-Should I be worried?
>>
>>53048131
Snowden trusts Russians with America's secrets, why wouldn't you trust some Russian with all your personal info?
>>
>>53043238
I do! Gaming performance in 10 came with frame drops for me.
>>
>>53043238
My faggoty ass roommate, because he's "afraid of change" or whatever bullshit he said.
>>
>>53048216
Are you asian?
>>
>>53048019
what the fuck? Why is there an option to keep all your shit but it is disabled and invisible by default?

Is there a non-russian program that can activate this button?

lol why?
>>
>>53048019
Can confirm that works. However, be warned if you debotnetted Win 7 like I did. The Windows setup couldn't even detect my 4790K and said I didn't meet the hardware requirements. I had to do a clean install by booting off the disk.
>>
>>53043238
I used to.
Looks nice, but dropped DirectDraw support is shit.
I returned to Win7.
>>
Yes I use 8.1 because /g/ has scared me away from upgrading to 10.
>>
>>53043238
I think about upgrading my W7(32bit) to W8.1(64bit).
Should I go W7(64bit) instead?
>>
>>53050892
Just go 8.1 64bit, download classic shell and you're good to go. 8.1 is just as good if not better than 7 and 8.1 is supported till 2023 and 7 2020.
>>
>>53051122
Thanks.

Get 7 x64 (Ultimate)
http://mirror.corenoc.de/digitalrivercontent.net/

DAZ Loader
http://www22.zippyshare.com/v/bxeZBG7h/file.html

And you should be fine. 8.1 is garbage UI-wise and there's too much METRO bloat that you'll have to deal on a daily basis, that is if you use your computer for more than faecesbook
>>
>>53050759
Get linux
>>
>>53043238
i wont go win10 until im forced by the following gaymes:
deus ex mankind divided
mirrors edge catalyst
tom clancys division
dishonored 2
no mans sky
tomb rai oh wait fuck (not yet, nooooot yet)
quantum breasssssshit

those 2 lasts are not enough but the others would fuck me up
>>
Yeah. To lazy to upgrade, I only use is for gaymin once in a while anyways.
>>
Yes, every service related to updating disabled. I understand people using 7, but 8 is simply snappier. 10 is way too intrusive.
>>
Yes, because chinks in MSI not only can't write a sensible BIOS, but use MBR when setting up ssd.
>>
>>53043238

No, I use a superior OS called Windows 7
>>
>>53043583
Is there any downsides to using this?
>>
>>53054410
>any downsides to using this
it's windows 8
>>
>>53048977
because 8.1 is literally faster in every way

>>53051258
I have classic shell and the only time I ever see Metro ever is when I join a wifi network and that panel comes out from the side listing all the networks in range
>>
8.1 came with my cheap tablet. It gets the exact amount of shit I expect done, and then some. I love it, and I'll probably keep it with 8.1 until it dies.
>>
>>53056004
>because 8.1 is literally faster in every way
not true

>>53056004
>I have classic shell
every start menu replacement is broken due to the fact that it does not update the recently used programs list.
>>
I do. I should have went with windows 7 honestly when I was dropping win 10. I just made a bootable USB of win 7 ultimate and will back up all my shit and transfer it all over via a partition for just a win 7 install tomorrow
