I'm a heavy gamer and have been making the switch with dual boot over the last year. I go into windows once or twice a month now.
There is a lot of playable content in Linux these days. You can't play everything but I've found more than enough:
No gta5 but gta4 plays fine with wine and hd texture mods
No fallout 4 but fallout 3 and new Vegas are fine
All blizzard stuff is fine with wine: hearthstone, diablo 3, sc2, wow raiding.
Skyrim and elder scrolls online are pretty flawless.
League of legends also runs well with wine.
Civ, bioshock, borderlands, shadow of mordor, cs go, dota 2 all have native Linux binaries.
PS2 and wii emulators will add thousands of playable titles...
Linux gaming isn't like the 90s anymore. If you are OK with many but not every title playable the switch becomes much easier. Still not for everyone.

I added a third drive to fuck with gentoo/funtoo last month and now rarely use debian.
If you are planning a new build consider buying a vtd compatible motherboard and CPU: this allows for vga pass through to a virtual machine. You can run Windows in a virtual machine with a dedicated graphics card and linux as the host os (using a dif graphics card or just integrated).
