drivers definitely aren't the strong point of windows. op here and i'd argue that the appeal is software compatibility, ironically. i was only installing because my uni requires me to use windows for their fucking spyware, and virtualization is a joke unless you have a dedicated graphics card.

Windows update on 7 sp1 with no other updates has an awful memory leak? problem. It's not even when it's installing. It uses gigs of memory CHECKING. It goes a lot higher than 3GiB sometimes. An update fixes it, but the fact that the os as released chokes updating more than a couple at a time is ridiculous.

Also, it tends to fuck up everything if you cancel it before it installs them all. Learnt that the hard way. I ended up in a situation where it would refuse to ever install any updates, they would all fail.

It's Manjaro KDE. It just runs slower overall. Dolphin sucks compared to Windows Explorer, aswell as how KDE just works in general. I really hate how KDE organizes program icons in the taskbar. Doing anything on Firefox is much slower and clunkier, especially video.

Go to "Manjaro Settings Manager" - "Hardware Detection" and see if you are using proper driver for you GPU. Hop on IRC if you have any issues/questions. If everything fails check out Xubuntu, decent start for beginners.
>>
>>52950933
>>52963251
Actually he isn't exaggerating.

The Windows update screen (the applying X of Y updates) where you cannot input anything and are forced to watch grass grow, THAT screen.

For whatever unknown god forsaken reason, windows loads all update packages to ram even after they're installed. So when you have a new install of windows, during that updating screen, it will attempt to load all 40 to 100 update packages into ram, then forced into page file because for no reason, windows update wants to keep EVERYTHING loaded. So you actually have the updater get progressively slower as it updates.

Windows update goes faster by installing only 10 updates at a time. It's fucking shit

Yeah, the blur plugin (can be used to apply blur to individual things, excluding the start menu used in unity), has been deprecated since like 0.9.0 or something. the current compiz used on ubuntu is 0.9.12. It doesn't really matter, just something I would like sometime in the future.
>>
>>52963518
Oh. :( 2Sad4Me

You could always switch to a different DE. I think Kwin (compositor in KDE) can blur terminals. I know the standalone Compton compositor can. Compton can only be run when there isn't another compositor, though.

Windows is just intrinsically worse.
Not only do problems have an infinitely higher chance of being fixed on Linux, but those fixes will contribute to software for a greater good.
Windows users act so proud, like whatever feature they need wouldn't be better if it were contributed back to the community instead of held hostage.

The problem here is that this is a good thing for linux, is not that windows, is not that people is unable to install windows, is that linux is now way more convenient to install. In my own experience is way more easy and fast to install ubuntu and derivatives than windows and comes with useful tools, no need for looking for drivers and a safe repository ootb. The only problematic hardware i know are AMD GPUs and broadcom wireless adapters but at least now AMD is trying to get their shit together.
