now with (native) os x support!

post your htop to celebrate

I feel bad for you OP. Didn't upgrade to htop 2 yet, but will as soon as they package it in the official repos.

I like how it adds cross-Unix support. OS X top is ass and I feel this is a thing that has been missing from the BSDs.

fucking retard

- In HTOP you can scroll the list vertically and horizontally to see all processes and complete command lines.
- In 'top' you are subject to a delay for each unassigned key you press (especially annoying when multi-key escape sequences are triggered by accident).
- HTOP starts faster ('top' seems to collect data for a while before displaying anything).
- In HTOP you don't need to type the process number to kill a process, in 'top' you do.
- In HTOP you don't need to type the process number or the priority value to renice a process, in 'top' you do.
- HTOP supports mouse operation, 'top' doesn't
- 'top' is older, hence, more used and tested.
>>
>>52942636
Why not just use ps? Or better yet a modern GUI process monitor? Take this ricer shit to the desktop thread where it belongs.

Still waiting for Debian to update :/

I might build it from source, but the user-visible changes aren't that big.

Does htop miss shortlived processes like top does?

If so, stick with atop or better yet perf.

"Killing by file only works for executables that are kept open during execution, i.e. impure executables can't be killed this way.

Be warned that typing killall name may not have the desired effect on non-Linux systems, especially when done by a privileged user.

killall -w doesn't detect if a process disappears and is replaced by a new process with the same PID between scans.

If processes change their name, killall may not be able to match them correctly. "

It did significantly impair a great creative mind, I'll give you that.
>>
>>52947726
I think this almost daily. There was some esoteric xcf toolkit that converts gimp files to png from the command line, and bam. brew. <3
>>
>>52947726
homebrew has almost always been really far behind when it comes to updates
htop was really fast this time, and it took them over a day

But htop straight up doesn't start. Top does.

Linux users: where scrollwheel support and single-command updates are considered amazing cutting-edge technology to be celebrated

lmao
>>
>>52954542
It's actually more than that.
Seedbox, Owncloud server, personal website, FTP, IRC, sometimes it hosts an Autismcraft server, etc.

I was stuck with an Athlon64 3500+ for 10 years, so I promised myself I'd get a bunch of cores for muh compiling.
