I want a Viao device of some sort, I don't care if it is a Viao P, or one of the VGN ones, I just want one so bad.

There's two on ebay that were bought from a college auction that don't have power adapters and are sold as-is

I will lowball some offers to the buyer and see if I can get one for like $40.

UMPCs are kawaii as fuck.

I hope they make one with a cherry trail atom soon.

On a side note, do y'all think the physical keyboard is really necessary? Wouldn't a precision stylus + onscreen keyboard be better?
>>
>>52927592
I was conflicted between this and a Vaio UX, ended up with the
UX though. Currently using an IdeaPad S10 Bluetooth tethered to my phone
>>
>>52928049
No vomit-chan, that would actually be very bad. The physical keyboard is part of what makes them good.
>>
>>52928063
Do you like the UX? I may buy one of those too. Have you tried installing GNU/Linux?
>>
I do, I could use a break from a phone with an angry birds processor. Wish someone would make one with a modern atom soc already.

How about a cute little subnotebook that you can hold in one hand? Not my pic, but I've got this exact model.

This thing is smaller and thinner than most laptops you can buy today. It's also running at .3ghz and mine has 256mb of RAM, but you can't have everything in life.

Toshiba 3110ct. I had #! on it years back, but recently replaced the HDD with a 16gb compact flash card and have Windows 98 installed. Struggling to get the VGA driver working though; miraculously, Toshiba still provides downloads on their site, but only for 95 or NT. Trying to choose between those right now. I also carelessly busted a scissor switch on the keyboard while messing with it (Pause/Break, which is pretty useless but would bother me forever) so I have a new keyboard assembly in the mail, which will also provide a new trackpoint cover. The old rubber rotted many years ago, and I've been using a cutdown pencil eraser instead.

Battery is thoroughly defunct, but is removable and replacements are still available. I'm thinking to use it as a static ssh terminal, without a battery installed at all. Though if I luck into a deal on a couple gigs of MicroDIMM memory that might change; it would be a pretty great 4chan machine.

Sony U-series (VGN-U71P 2 units of it)
Sony Vaio C1 series (PCG-C1VN) Picturebook what they call.

It is indeed an xperia play, its a fantastic little thing. Runs a decent amount of emulators with minimal lag. They're not very much on eBay at this point, try snagging one!
>>
>>52929971
I have a PSP 2000, looking into buying a camera attachment thanks to another anon that posts in these threads.
>>
>>52929977
Thats awesome, I totally forgot about them. They are selling for $70 new on ebay!

What kind of emulators and games do you play? GBA?
>>
>>52930001
I got mine for $35 a few months back. And I have recently taken to GBA games but I've gotten PSP games running decently on here when I don't have the CPU under clocked. The battery life is sub par but that could be solved with a larger one. With CM9 running I'd say it does extremely well at running games up to the PS1 era and gets around or a little over 3 hours play time :D

Hey Brad Linder here, the main writer of Liliputing. At Liliputing we shy away from the big contenders of tech and favor the small. For those that enjoy "comfy" portable devices my blog might be the one for you! http://liliputing.com/2015/12/portabook-xmc10-is-an-8-inch-laptop-with-a-12-inch-keyboard.html here's my contribution to the thread

The electronics maybe, the shelf on the other hand. I have a shelf in my closet that's sagging considerably under the weight of 2 rather old laptops (1988 Zenith Supersport 286 and a 1997 IBM Thinkpad 760E) and an old camcorder (the kind that records onto full size VHSes).
>>
>>52930024
Wow, it can handle PSP games? That is impressive! Maybe I can get star wars battlefront running on it! 3 hours is pretty nice if you ask me, especially since I can just carry around a spare battery in my wallet!

Pretty neat idea though. It's ridiculous at first glance, but being able to switch operating systems entirely—at the hardware level—could actually be useful. It lets your phone function as a phone, and your mobile computer function as a computer. I could see that working, though I doubt the idea would ever move enough units for an actually good implementation to appear.

While in Japan, we also bought a Vaio UX and a Vaio PCG-U3, both very neat and very very small.
>>
>>52930837
It was reasonably usable, however hitting the return key or using the keys closer to the edge resulted in the whole keyboard flexing at the central pivot point, that would be the only downside to the folding arrangement.

The screen was fine and it ran with a reasonable amount of zip, so if later down the line you see one on eBay cheap I'd go for it. But only as a toy, it felt like a $200-$300 toy, not a $1298 business tool.

The UX is really cute and feels solid as a rock, it feels like a fatter PSP in the hand. The keyboard (if you could call it that) is almost usable, but I doubt you could write out anything longer than an email or two before you got sore fingers as the buttons have almost no travel or feedback.

The bios is so cute to look at, occupying only 3" or so by default.

It all fits in two pockets. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>52932704
It was a really nice device for music and email after I jailbroke it. But now all the buttons barely work, there are no apps for it at all (i have opera mini for it though) and the battery lasts maybe an hour. I replaced it with a Moto G and a 4th gen iPod classic with rockbox, but it still sits around haunting my desk.

Out of curiosity what makes tablets uncomfy?

I find mine pretty comfy to use most of the time, though I do kind of wish I had an windows one sometimes.

>>
>>52932776
I kind of get that, but touch interfaces have come a pretty long way, so I don't find it much of a hindrance these days, plus even android supports Bluetooth keyboards and mice if you ever needed them
>>
>>52932708
That doesn't look very comfy.
>>
>>52932776
The lack of a physical keyboard is only an issue if you are writing essays or some shit on it, at which point the shitty keyboards of any of these other meme devices are no good either.
>>
>>52932809
For me at least, the point in such a device is that I don't need external peripherals for basic functionality.

>>52932849
How about those 11" ultra portable notebooks, some of them are even reasonable price wise
>>
>>52932906
Not any anon in this conversation, but if I had a need for a smaller device with a keyboard, I'd get a chuwi hi10. Dual full size usb, Atom z8300, 4/64 GB with microsd expansion, and a 10" 1200p screen tablet with a transformerbook like base with a solid hinge. For ~$230 with keyboard its pretty cheap too.
>>
As someone who owns a 12.1" convertable and an 8" tablet with bluetooth keyboard/trackpoint combo, I have to say that the only advantage the tablet has over the laptop is weight. The laptop (10 years ago) got 11 hours battery and provided all of the same functionality with the added bonus of being faster (it's still faster than a modern atom and gets the same battery) and having interchangeable parts. Of course it is a lot thicker than something newer but it's still about the same weight as something newer. The tablet and keyboard weighs so little that it is negligible and it provides the same amount of functionality but with a smaller screen and no interchangeable parts. I can never upgrade the ram, storage, or wireless cards.

So really unless you need something with as small a footprint as possible, it is silly to go under 12.1" for a laptop like device.

Also, I love my t2020. I just wish it had newer hardware and wasn't dying a slow, noisy death.

Pic related.

I wish more computers and keyboard came with clit mice. They are significantly better than trackpads, especially the small trackpads.

I recommend an X220 Tablet. They fit in small drawstring bags.

I do too. I don't mind trackpads but small ones are terrible. I recently started using the clit on my Latitude and when I pulled out my netbook I kept going for the nonexistent clit

Yeah. You can't see it in the picture, but the bluetooth keyboard has one and the laptop has one. The one on the laptop is actually modded and not original. The computer originally came with an offbrand trackpoint that was absolutely horrible and barely worked even with the right drivers so I ripped it out and put in a different model. I had to use tape, but it's held for three years without budging.

I keep thinking about buying a thinkpad keyboard and trying to mod in an actual trackpoint just to see what happens.

It's only the chinks, there are quality Microsoft and Logitech bluetooth keyboards. But most of the time they don't even have something as basic as arrow keys.

They only have the most basic keys required to tell everyone your life on Facebook, meaning not much aside from letters, numbers and a space bar.

After owning my Asus EEE for a few days I can already type at 65 WPM. For comparison I top out at 75-80 on my desktop and 40 on my phone with a touch screen keyboard and I don't see my self being able to type much faster than that on a smaller tablet. Not to mention the additional comfort of having the screen sticking up instead of laying down in your lap.
