I wish youtube-dl wasn't so damn slow. There really is no reason to load every single extractor. I know the regexp to match the right extractor for that url is neededd, but there is no reason to load the whole extractor before having confirmed it's the one you need. It's just so much overhead.

I'm a 36 year old program manager; I have a dev team of 6 programmers and even though I have an undergrad CS degreee from a top 20 school and an MBA from a top 10 school (non ivy-league), I cannot relate to them. I do not get any of the "in-jokes" because I never watched Anime. What anime should I start begin with? Remember, this is only so i can have team building sessions with my autistic dev team.

>>
>>52873660
I've been thinking about moving some code around and having all the regexp in a single file that checks and then loads the right extractor. Seems like the better solution to me.
>>52873709
The main reason I'm using youtube-dl with mpv to watch videos is because I'm on a machine that is too slow to show the videos in the browser. In my case the overhead is very noticeable.
You're right, on my desktop PC it's not that big of a deal.
>>
what the hell how did I install this using the cli on windows.

I don't even know what is on on this fucking machine.
>>
>>52873736
They are ripping subs only, video is 1080i TV deinterlaced and covered to 720p.
>>
>>52873512
Tell them they are too old for kids cartoons, tell them to take up a real man's hobby like hunting and skinning dear, or bear fighting, or snake charming. Basically tell them to man the fuck up.
>>
>>52873933
It just doesn't make much sense to do it any other way
If you had a bunch of tools to download from a bunch of different sites, e.g. Youtube, Crunchyroll, Twitch, etc. and a computer-illiterate friend asked you to download a thing at a URL, you'd look at the URL to see what it is (e.g. https://youtu.be/fhwofbd) before you even look at the tools you have
>>
>>52873971
>They are ripping subs only

No they are not. They release 1080p too. All they do is remux.
>>
>>52873996
What I'm saying is, youtube-dl could just load of regular expressions to determine which extractor it needs to use. Then it would load that extractor and use it to download the video.
Right now, it loads every single extractor it has available. Then it figures out which extractor it needs by using the regular expressions on the url and then downloads the video.
>>
>>52874005
Aren't almost like 99% of 1080p releases just 720p upscales?
>>
>>52874005

>>
>>52873587

Or you know, don't go to shit sites and use ANN or MAL instead.
>>
>>52874057
Right, I wasn't disagreeing. Why the hell would they do it that way?
>>
>>52874065
They're actually downscales of upscales. Sometimes you get actual 1080p though. Working looked real nice.
>>
>>52874079
i dont neet anime, i know kissanime has hq and its free, plus summaries
>>
>>52874065
Yes but that's besides they point. What you described previously is what regular fansub groups do with their source files, usually .ts from some shitty japanese network. Horriblesubs rip the entire stream from CR, video, audio & subs and remux it. That's it. It's 100% automated.

You are really overestimating their laziness and efficiency if you think they time, typeset, encode anything.
>>
>>52874083
It makes some amount of sense. The regular expression and the extractor are in the same textfile. This way you keep them together and you keep the project modular. I might have done the same thing in the beginning, but this approach doesn't scale very well and will only get worse as more sites are supported.
>>
>>52873512
boku no pico
>>
>>52874148
Extractors could come with two files: a regex and the extractor itself. That doesn't seem like too much of a burden on extractor writers/distributors, since they have to come up with both anyway.

Nope, 1080p rips if they're coming from Crunchyroll at least.

HorribleSubs is a good thing. Only autists caring about MUH FANSUBBING COMMUNITY give a shit. CR subs are high quality (at least for english and spanish) and in fact they hire people who used to fansubbing. If you see someone posting examples of shit subs they have, it's probably old stuff. New releases have all been good from my experience.

Not really. The only thing I don't like about them is that they never do chapters on their releases.

You're not supporting the original artists and producers, you're only supporting CR. Buy the BDs and/or merchandise from Japan if you want to support the creators.

CR is shit and you should feel bad for using it. The only advantage to using HS is speed, literally nothing else. The "encodes" look worse, too.

There are also so many problems in using (paying) CR due to its history and how it got big. They literally exploited fansubbers and abandoned them as soon as they had the chance to go full jew. They also refuse to improve their services, despite making promises. See Daiz' CR Reddit AMA and how he tears them a new asshole.
