GPA matters more with STEM degrees than it does elsewhere. You need to prove that you really have the hard skills nailed down, because otherwise, you're going to deliver a broken product.
With programming jobs, employers are also looking for a portfolio of personal projects, unrelated to employment or classes. It shows that you can work and problem solve without being directed all the time. How many of those dudebros do you think code in their spare time?
The fact that the jobs pay a lot when you actually get them says that there is something of a shortage of workers that employers view as qualified, and that they just don't trust Mr. 2.0 GPA from a no-name university and no personal projects to be a good programmer.

To be fair, it's hardly unheard of for CS majors to go unemployed, particularly those with bad grades, no internships, and no personal portfolio.
But yeah, it's pretty misleading. They should talk about median income for degrees instead, and possibly what percentage are actually employed in their major's field. A fair number of the fields right of architecture have very few jobs in the field and the jobs that they do have pay like shit. They probably found work elsewhere. A history major working as a mail room clerk is still employed, and probably not happy. On the flip side, putting yourself in the employer's shoes, would you expect the CS graduate to stick around in your mail room?

Knowing C+ is going to help you, but jobs in Networking and IT are always going to be in demand. Because they require a bit if interpersonal skills as well as computer skills, Marcus and Charles from USA are more marketable than Advik from India and Son from Korea.

CS is focused more on concepts and programming, CIS is more of a general survey of computer solutions for businesses.

All I know is when I saw this trend of kids that had no buisness in CS join the major, I jumped ship to Computer Engineering. From what I've seen the people are much smarter on average and actually have a good mindset for problem solving. At my university it's also harder to get into CE or EE so it requires you to not be autistic. It's basically a CS and EE double major. You pretty much have to take all the core classes of both majors along with additional ones based on what you want you want to specialize in. I've learned a lot and I'm really happy I switched. It's hard as fuck but it's definitely going to pay off.

Work that calls on mental prowess is tiring in its own right. You have to focus hard for a long time, and it inevitably becomes tedious and/or stressful at times. At the end of the day, you're just as fucking done as would be after a day of putting boxes into a truck (no stranger to this, BTW), if not more so.
I'll also say that STEM isn't referred to as the fields that society absolutely needs in order to function for nothing. If we didn't have any boxers, we'd just be out one form of entertainment (a form that's not even all that popular these days, mostly because the talent pool died off when people realized that making a career out of getting into fights inevitably turns you into a cripple). On the flip side, if you didn't have people sitting behind desks spending long hours designing everything from the material used for the ring to the lighting, you wouldn't even have a good arena for the boxing match to take place in, much less a big flashy HBO broadcast. The work of people sitting behind desks today is also going to result in an even higher quality experience for fans both in the seats and at home in the future. Someday, as biology makes progress, they'll probably even be able to undo the damage done to the dumbass participants!
The work of these so-called non-workers are what distinguish us from monkeys. A STEM worker's ability and effort can literally be a life or death difference, in many different ways. Their work is that important. For our part, CS majors are responsible for designing algorithms used in everything from medical equipment to lab testing equipment to transportation to security.
