I have $500. Tell me why I shouldn't buy a 4K monitor instead of a couple of 1080p monitors.
>>
>>52713157
I'd get 2 1440p instead
>>
>>52713157
Yeah, but how much do you have in your high-interest or investment account? You're not just a good goy making someone else rich, are you?
>>
>>52713174
That gives you less resolution than a 4k monitor, though.
>>
>>52713226
Well yeah...I'd have more use for 2 monitors and 4k would require a big gpu and cpu upgrade just to run at 60fps. Atm I'm running dual 1440p. One 144hz and other ips
>>
>>52713195
I have 20k in VTSAX right now. After I graduate and start my job I will be putting around 80k into it every, plus a maxed out 401k.
>>
>>52713157
>falling for the 4k meme
There's nothing specifically made for 4k yet. It's not going to be worth it for a few years. Just get 2 1440p monitors
>>
>>52713157
Anyone have the wallpaper of the OP computer screen?
>>
>>52713251
>run at 60fps
Nobody said anything about video games.

You're on /g/. Get the fuck out.
>>
>>52713263
:^)
>>
>>52713157
If you're not gaming, go ahead. 4K looks fucking sweet.
>>
go by 3 16:10 1920*1200 monitors used with a ergotech monitor stand
You won't regret it.
I personally prefer two horizontal and one vertical on the side.

Get one of those Philips 40" 4K monitors and never look back.
>>
>>52713157

>4k

Grab a 1440p ultrawide instead you mongoloid.
>>
>>52714018
what instrument do you play?
>>
>>52714405
I don't want the bigget meme ever, sorry.
>>

Then maybe consider applying your money in a way that allows you to not think like a luddite, if that's ever possible.
>>
>>52714546
Double Bass

Sheet music is Ravel Rapsodie Espagnol
>>
get a 1440p ultrawide m8
>>
>>52714661
damn dude you lug that thing around!!!!

try electric sometime. maybe fretless electric

or are you a purist?
>>
>>52713157
It would be wiser to spend half that on a single 1080p monitor and put the rest into savings.

If your unsure of the quantity of monitors you want then you don't have a necessity for more than one
>>
>>52713157
You would if you had more money than sense.
>>
>>52714018
How much we talking?

60Hz?
>>
>>52713157
You probably should, the sharpness and/or work area are fucking amazing.
>>
>>52714887
like they say, you get for what you pay
>>
>>52714405
What's the point? The "standard" for a lot of content is 16:9, so you'll get black bars most of the time. Work area is less than 4K. Can't see what advantage that awkward as fuck aspect ratio has.
>>
>>52714907
or you wait until this christmas and pay like 2/3rds what you would now.
>>
>>52714953
>wait 1 year
Buying now and buying at the end of the year aren't really the same thing, it's not like Xmas is next month.
>>
>>52714948
>The "standard" for a lot of content is 16:9, so you'll get black bars most of the time

Literally every movie is 21:9. Every modern game supports it and even a fuckload of old games too. The ones that don't you can easily force them to with a simple fix. There are also chrome extensions that work around youtube and other shit's limitations as well.

Besides, you're not gonna be browsing ONE fucking thing at a time at fullscreen in a goddamn 4k screen. The whole purpose of the thing is productivity and also a better experience in general when it comes to media consumption and gaming.

>Literally every movie is 21:9

I'm being pedantic, but lots of IMAX movies alternate between 16:9 and 21:9, like Interstellar, the Batman films, etc, which fucks up your day if you're watching on a 21:9 monitor.
>>
>>52715028
and I mean literally every movie
>>
>>52714733
I do play electric, but that's no go in an orchestra.
They're not so bad to move around - I have a wheel that straps to the case when I have to take it somewhere.

Because 4k is shit for productivity
> Windows scaling is insanely aggressive
Shit for games
> Unless your packing some serious GPU/s
Often $500 alone won't get you
> 99-100% sRGB color accuracy
> high contrast ratio
> decent design
> thin Bezels
> Ips

Overall one 4k monitor is less productive than Dual ips 1440p monitors

Fuck you OP, do your own research

>>

21:9 at 1440p seems pretty large... can a single gpu even drive that?
>>
>>52715144
whatever he still has a higher IQ and better projected earnings potential

OOOOOOOOOOOOOH
>>
>>52715197
It is less demanding than a 4k monitor.
>>
>>52715197
If you're talking about gaming, highly-dependent on the game. Many 2016 games struggle to hit 1080p on a 980.

If you're talking about productivity, I'm driving a 3440x1440 display from a 650m right now.
>>
>>52713226
in that case why would you even consider 1080
in fact why would you, this isnt the stone age
>>
>>52713251
There's nothing stopping you from gaming at 1080p in a 4k monitor. x2 scaling means you won't lose any crispness and it's still a decent resolution for videogames, and you'll still have all that screen real estate when you do actual work.
>>
>>52715144
what a retard
>>
>>52715228
*1080p/60
>>
>>52715228
Obviously vidya. That's a shame, I hadn't realized gaming had become so demanding, I've been running off igp this whole time, so I haven't really seen what the more demanding games require.

Maybe a 21:9 at 1080p is more reasonable.
>>
>>52715144
This is an alpha.
>>
>>52715281
Right, that's what I do. You can always drop to 2560x1080, or failing that, straight 1920x1080.

And gaming is demanding mostly because PC optimisation is apparently really low priority for game developers. Games run fine at 1080p on 2012 hardware in consoles, and can barely hit 1080p/60 on hardware that is literally 5-10x more powerful on PC. Ubisoft is the worst offender for this.
>>
>>52715301
you're forgetting OP wanted to get a 4K monitor.

he was a nerd from the beginning
>>
>>52715321
probably wanted to watch his many international girlfriends get naked for him on skype in 4K

that's what an alpha would do.

Not him but do you own a 2560x1080 monitor?

I have the money to buy that 29" LG one right now, the 29UM67, but I have a Dell S2440L, which is a 24" VA panel (really outstanding blacks) and I just can't decide. There are no ultrawides for me to see in person where I live as well. I have a meme card and I don't really mind dropping down some AA or whatever to keep 60 fps but I'm not sure if 29" 1080p ultrawide will just end up feeling cramped since it's a 23" monitor's height. I just don't know what to do.
>>
>>52715316
>>52715835

Also not considering productivity as I don't use my PC for anything productive, it's just gaming, movies and web browsing.
>>
>>52713157
because you could be productive or you could be a meme stuck with a shitty outdated first-generation panel by the time 4K is actually useful for anything

just kill yourself already
>>
>>52713157
Because you will scale things like your UI and text up on the 4k monitor so you can actually read things and use it which means you will have less functional work area than two monitors of 1080p or 1440p.
>>
If you aren't into games just grab a 21:9 and a 16:9 monitor both IPS.
The best of Both worlds.
>>
>>52716196
VA>IPS
Better blacks are more important.

>>
>>52716428
Great b8 m8. You literally can't read text properly on the current generation of VR HMDs. It will be years until HMDs are high-fidelity enough to replace a display. 4K per eye would be the minimum for easily legible text.
>>
>>52714980
kek

I have a 3440x1440 UW and I don't like it

I would rather have 42" 4K monitor

- Movies are for shills
- Gaming doesn't matter
