there was talks about botnet embedded into ES. If you don't care for such things, I guess it wouldn't matter. ASUS File manager is pretty good, worked with my samba shares.

Most of the hate isn't for the aesthetics, but there's some removed functionality. For example there used to be the jump to top/bottom button in the bottom right, which is now hidden behind the 3 dot menu.
You also could swipe in from the right to go back to the last thread you were looking at, which you can't do anymore.
Other than those two complaints though I think it's a great improvement.

I had to break up with ES because it decided to move into my house and start throwing out all my cool shit, so now I'm hanging out with Total Commander and it feels like 2006 again.
I use ES.
Built in SFTP, FTP, tones of other shit.
Tabbed is really handy.
Funny it's got tabs and explorer.exe still doesn't.
Samba's a bid dodgy though.

Yeah it can copy and move files (wow!), meanwhile, ES can reach my cloud shit, can serve FTP, browse FTP,SMB, can do literally everything.
Now that the Pro version is out, I bought it, since I have been using ES all the time.

(On Windows8+ you have to disable "Open new windows as new process" or something like that in Folder Options, otherwise both will just crash from time to time.)
