I have a slot loading iMac G3 450MHz with a gig of ram in it running Mac OS 9.1 and I want to install OSX 10.4 on it so it can be somewhat useful. Only thing is I have no idea how to upgrade it and whether or not I can just burn a DVD with an iso found online.

With an free app Disco, You can (depend of ISO)... but it's an OSX app... But maybe on Win You can too. Check first on everymac.com or somewhere similar place if Your machine is actually capable of (seems it is http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/faq/imac-g3-macos-preinstalled-macos-9-x-compatibility.html). Place a disc in the slot and choose proper system in Startup Disk control panel or just start it with 'c' key pressed. The rest is simple. I dunno if it destroy your OS9, put probably not.

daily drove a high-end config early '02 iMac G4 with 10.4 through most of the summer, it was usable but it was noticeably slow even for me as a patient shitbox collector who's used to dealing with older hardware being pushed like that

Disassemble it and put a Raspberry Pi or some shit inside. Although it's originally a piss-poor PPC Mac, there are two things that makes it stand out:
