Using Arch, or any other minimal distro, is kind of like building a desktop.

The point is that you get to start from close to nothing and build it how you want it.

If this doesn't appeal to you, distros like Ubuntu that give you a complete, finished experience out of the box are probably a better choice.

This. Fucking noobuntu faggots. Ubuntu comes with bloat, why would you have it instead of Windows? Either get a real distro or stop playing.

I'd still be using openSUSE if I knew how to get that systemd cancer out. Now I use Xubuntu LTS with a bunch of shit stripped out.

Doesn't change my post. Debian/Ubuntu minimal are better for a bare bones custom insall than Arch is.

Dude stuff in Arch mostly just werks just as in Ubuntu. Mostly.

Exactly, that's what I've been telling Archfags to do all along.
>>
>>52526448
I wouldn't know that since I've never used debian/ubuntu minimal, but I guess they at least come with basic utilities and a sane default configuration. Something arch lacks.

>>52526599
It literary installs the same things as the default installer unless you do cli only, which is a mess to deal with.

The bot? One that walks/runs to Edgeville takes out 28 Tuna, walks/runs to Stronghold of Security. Navigates the floors, and doors to Flesh Crawlers and kills them in F2P. Then restocks at bank. So far 74 Strength, 90 Strength in F2P will be easy. I 24/7 bot this.

People who use distros that "just work" are linux noobs. I use arch on all machines and I'm constantly fixing systems like a true elite. And by fixing I mean reading a wiki and copy and pasting commands until it works.

I will always buy Ubuntu Linuxâ„¢ because Linux for human beingsâ„¢. Ubuntuâ„¢ also pioneers innovative new technologies like Mirâ„¢, Unityâ„¢, and the highest quality Linux distribution to ever grace computers.
Ubuntuâ„¢ also pioneers in the phone market with its latest Ubuntu Phoneâ„¢ powered by a synergy of Mirâ„¢ + Unityâ„¢. With these two innovative technologies combined together creates a breathtaking phone experience. You can ensure no dropped calls. Ubuntuâ„¢ is also at the forefront in gaming with its partnership with Valveâ„¢ to bring the Steamâ„¢ platform to Linuxâ„¢. When I load up my Nouveauâ„¢ open source Nvidiaâ„¢ driver to power my latest Nvidiaâ„¢ graphics I'm a destroyer of worlds in my games powerd by Steamâ„¢. Power to the gamersâ„¢.
Ubuntu Linuxâ„¢ is also very secure. It's the most secure operating system, and Linuxâ„¢ distribution on the planet. It's harden against NSA probes, tested by highly trained and experienced open source programming engineers to have ever graced this planet. With such innovative security technologies like root, selinux, iptables, snort, and grsecurity you can ensure all your sensitive data is secured and you're safe on the internet.
At this point in time there's really no reasons to consider Windowsâ„¢. I tried once. It infected my pc with a plethora of viruses that it caused my pc to overheat and explode. It not only nearly burnt down my house, but the neighborhood.
It's quite clear that OPs a Windowsâ„¢ shill trying to convince you to settle on something less than the optimal experience with Ubuntu Linuxâ„¢. Ubuntuâ„¢ is the only real way to play games or do anything productive. We've seen that they offer incredible libraries for software developers like Storm and Juju. He is probably too poor to afford the Ubuntu Linuxâ„¢ experience.
Don't be a poor gamer with bad security. Linux for human beingsâ„¢ with Ubuntu Linuxâ„¢

why are people complaining about arch being "hard to install"?
literally just format disk, pacstrap base, bootloader and there you go.

jk but seriously, why do people want to run linux if they're afraid of the cli?
Almost every PC comes pre-installed with Windows (and Macs with OSX), so why bother in the first place.
Linux on Desktops is cancer anyway and if there was a proper ssh/sshfs implementation there shouldn't even be a reason to have it.
Linux on servers is even a bigger joke when there's bsd.

Arguing who has the better pile of shit is still having an argument about shit

wait, never mind. Forgot I'm on /g/
>>
>>52523590
Arch was literally the easiest thing I've ever installed.

I've never plugged in a live media and gotten wifi setup in the first minute before.

The fact that it's install scripts makes everything clearer because you know exactly what to do. vs. in a OS which launches in a GUI, sure the install is fine, but everything after that takes so long to get used to and if you don't want to read through the retarded bloat manual with a shitton of pictures they'll basically assume you can figure it out by digging through the clusterfuck of menus. This ends up taking much longer than how to do anything on Arch which amounts to knowing how pacman works, for everything else google will always have an easy answer.

After a full install just install a DE package if you want instant "just werks" utilities like your battery status.
>>

I't funny how there's way more people who love to tell people that they don't use Arch than those who do, and you can tell that they've never used since they mix it up with Gentoo, the real unstable time-sink OS

>>52525974
Jesus Christ senpai don't act so desperate, I can hear you crying from here

>>52526088
My reason for using Arch is that I'm lazy and it just werks. I don't like the default set-ups of any other desktop distros and Gentoo is too unstable (so maybe your first condition was correct)

OP, you're a fag.

I've used *buntus for 2 years and installed an Arch/Windows dual-boot on my main rig yesterday. Currently installing in my shitty "fuck around with OSes" netbook.

There's literally nothing wrong with the *buntus, or Arch, or any other distro for that matter. I'm liking Arch because so far it's 'fun', but on my main rig if Xorg DOES break or anything, I'm pulling all the data on the partition to a safe place and going back to Xubuntu because I need stability and "just werks" on that machine.

Why not just let anyone use what they want and stop asking them to justify their, or even worse your, choice?

This has been my experience to be honest.

Installed everything I need on Arch over a weekend. Just setting up Python exactly as I needed it in Windows took me longer.

Pacman and the AUR saves me a lot of time.

Also never broke anything because I'm not one of those ricing faggots that fuck with X to get prettier desktop pictures.

Yes, when it first came out it was shit, that's because it was NEW.
In it's current state it is, imo, the best DE available. Definitely MUCH better than current Gnome.

Took me < 30 minutes to get Arch Linux fully setup with i3. All maintance is accomplished by typing pacman -Syyu into urxvt in the morning and thats it. Takes < 1 minute and I'm set for the day.
If you can't accomplish this, you should probably not involve yourself with Linux or open source in general.
