And this is the reason why I prefer root by exploit. Manufactures are ruining it with their stupid triggers.

pretty much this

why would i want a phone with useless bloat "features"

you can't install xprivacy otherwise.

>CyanogenMod

How do I know what build is good for my device? there're like a gazillion different versions:
https://download.cyanogenmod.org/

It doesn't seem to be on the list (it's a NGM DR3 by the way).
>>
>>52519273
If it's not on the list there, it's not officially supported. Check xda for unofficial builds

Never buy a phone without strong third-party ROM support (mainly CM).
>>

You need Root to flash CM most of the time tho

To delete Google shit

What's wrong with samsung pay?

Why do people always go with the shittiest, bloatiest ROM? I'd understand if it was a last resort, but the way people keep gloating about it seems otherwise.

So what? Are you going to stop carrying your wallet around? Doubtful considering you still need a drivers license most of the time.

Not to mention
>go to the bar
>try to open a tab
>"ok anon, I need your credit card"
>"uhhhh, my credit card is on my phone"
>"then you're not opening a tab"

Answer my first question.
>>
>>52519749
Only if you're doing it the "hold my hand" way.
The only possible excuse for requiring root prior to flashing another ROM is to put a different Recovery on there... Which can be done by direct flashing. Just like the ROM could be.

Unless you're circumventing a locked BL. That's a whole different beast.
>>
>>52519890
Sam pay is literally useless. CM is baby's first ROM.

>>
>>52520096
Yeah, it's well aware of that, their boot logo is literally tipping you. The ROM is almost perfect, all features are there. the least bloated I've ever seen. Even less than pure AOSP.
>>
>ads. fucking tons of ads.
Pretty much this. I have pretty much full freedom to do whatever the fuck I want with my phone. I paid several hundred dollars for it so I expect some courtesy extended to do as I please with the device. Root = no ads. The wireless pay concept is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist yet. A good solution would be to make the ID do everything. Pay bills. Be a metro pass. You name it. Whatever a smart card could do it would do. It needs to be centralized.
>>
You mean there are people that don't root when they know how to?

This, also because I got used to all the benefits of it from the early android days, when lagdroid was truly an apt name for it and you had to do a hundred things for it to work decently.
>>
Anyone here happen to own an Xperia Z1s or Z3 and can tell me if they have ever rooted and how they like it? I currently have a Z5 now and have always loved Sonys stock ROM over Samsungs and other android devices. But I have these phones laying around and if I can do some interesting things with them then I would love to hear about it.
>>
>>52520634
Protip: If your carrier simply imposes the restriction on the built-in tethering option through use of an app that kills any process using it (for example, my carrier's "Synchronoss TEDC"), you can simply use ADB from a computer to disable/block the app even if they "prevented" that from the Applications page.
>>
>>52520321
technigger doesn't root?
>>
>>52520703
I have a Note 5 and Z3.
Stock Rom with xposed is amazing on the Z3 since the Xperia Rom is so light that gravitybox is all you need.

This note 5 is only a day old but holy shit I already hate touchwiz.
>>
>>52521227

>>
>>52521227

>>
>>52521368
Yeah, but I'm still on stock cause I like all the s pen stuff. My titanium backup stuff doesn't work when I transferred from the Z3 to the Note, you think it's cause I'm going from 32 to 64 bit?

I'm not sure about that, but I don't use TB. Does it make a disk image like a backup through recovery does? If so, it wouldn't work.

It's sad how you have to root android to restore basic functionality like write access to sd cards and adblocking
>>
Bloatware is fucking bullshit
>>
I had my Verizon Note 3 rooted. Installed safestrap recovery as a side load, greenified apps and removed all boost. Xposed framework with xprivacy. I know my current Stylo has root and recovery available for it but honestly have not felt the need to bother yet, maybe if ROM development picks up.

Yes... why wouldn't it be?

>So, /g/ why did you root?
I have administrative access on all of my computers by default. I see no reason why this should not also extend to my phone, if it is to be used as a general computing device.

My main uses for it are AdAway, Logcat Root, and occasional chroot needs (Debian in a chroot jail).

>>52517253

Anon... installing Cyanogenmod gives you a superuser binary. You already have root. You just need to enable it in the settings if you want to use it for anything.

Dunno what that's about. Posting from my tablet which has a 32gb S4s card to save all my stuff to.

That looks like LG. My phone is a Stylo on 5.1.1 with 64gb ad and it writes fine. It's the default storage for my camera and I manually moved ask my picture galleries when to it when internal storage was running low.

Both sd cards are nothing special either. Microcenter class 10s.

I'm trying to download the Android OS to downgrade my phone. I'm using a Sony Xperia M.
I've downloaded C1905_Moneylatentoi__15.1.C.2.8_world.zip.ftf, and C2005_15.2.A.2.5_CE.ftf, but neither seem to work when I try to flash.

Is anybody able to link me to a download page to download another version of these OS.
