Well both are high quality products but you must remember overpriced for their premium branding and feel.
If possible getting them used or later on would be a good idea so you don't have to pay 1500 dollars. I guess if you really do have the dosh go for it.
Go ahead and try out the Surface in BestBuy, but not just the laptop and "quick brown fox jumps over the dog" but removing the screen so you can really demo the tablet mode and see if it is a suitable weight. It must feel light for it to be a suitable tablet. If you are a student using it to do homework problems may be attractive.

The Surface Book would primarily be used as a laptop, so being used a tablet for most of the time isn't an issue for me. If it was, I'd get a Surface Pro instead.
