A friend asked for help building a new pc from scratch. I haven't done a scratch build in forever, from a little research and digging I tossed this together for him on PC Partspicker.

Any pants on head retarded choices? Bear in mind his budget is sub 1k, I don't think he'd be looking for 4K resolution yet, so 4k performance isn't really a factor.

I'm looking for an upgrade to my Asus T100. Can someone recommend me the best lightweight, under 13" hybrid Laptop/Tablet for around £500?
I'm leaning towards the Lenovo Yoga 700 because it's fanless and shit and won't warm up my lap whilst I'm using it but just wondering if the performance might be a bit shit as a result. I could live with it if it's not too bad, it uses a Core M3-6y30 processor. Not really a fan of the Surface and after something that can handle the occasional more intensive task

Well unlike earlier, it is only showing the display card, and the renderer tab is missing.

Previously, the problem was that I could get the game to run on the IGPU or the GPU when one or the other was disabled. When I enable both of them I get these d3derr problems.

i usually recommend a LAMP stack (linux, apache, mysql and php) for the backend. it's well established and really stable. you could find a million tutorials about it. you'll have to learn some front end too.
you could learn Python and Django or Ruby on Rails. Both are great options.
the big thing these days is Node (backend) and Backbone/Angular.js (frontend). all are javascript libraries/frameworks

>>
>>52444391
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as RAID 10, is in fact, RAID 1&2, or as I've recently taken to calling it, RAID 1 plus 0. RAID 1 plus 0 is not a RAID level unto itself, but rather another level of a fully functioning nested RAID made useful by the added striping.

Many computer users run a modified version of RAID every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of RAID which is widely used today is often called RAID 10, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically RAID 1 nested with RAID 0.

There really is a RAID 1 and a RAID 0, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. RAID 1 is the mirror: the part of the nested array that preserves an exact copy of the data across different discs. RAID 1 is an essential part of a high performance RAID, but by itself hampers system write performance. RAID 1 is normally used in combination with RAID 0: the whole system is basically RAID 0 with RAID 1 added, or RAID 1+0. All the so-called "RAID 10" computers are really nested RAID 1+0.

Hi, /g/

I'm on Windows 7 and using ffmpeg to try to copy parts of a large mp4 so that I can concate them later, but when I go to copy them I get this error message:
[matroska @ 00000000031b0020] Codec for stream 0 does not use global headers but container format requires global headers
[matroska @ 00000000031b0020] Codec for stream 1 does not use global headers but container format requires global headers

I'm using this
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -ss 197.294 -t 63.098 -acodec copy -vcodec copy output.mp4
but the output is much worse quality than the original as well. I did some research and found this: http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=590

However, I don't know if this fixes my problem because I'm trying to edit video, not stream it. I tried different output formats, all with the same result. What can I try to do from here? I'm somewhat stumped.

Pretty close to your standard laptop DESU. Just need to have a bit of familiarity with uefi.

Ask if they have the instruction manual it came with. Last macbook I did work on had instructions on hardware maintenance in it surprisingly. (2011 or 2012 model).

Honestly, I dunno. I just know that some PSUs have different wiring schematics and if you were to plug (for sake of argument) custom EVGA cables into a Corsair PSU, you could fry your mainboard. You'll just have to do some research and read/make forum posts.

what microsd card should I get for my phone
>>
>>52447121
Yes.
I used ZFS as my data partition years ago but never properly used it (used it on multi-partitioned drive; only accessible through Linux and Hackintosh since I had no dedicated system).
Oh and I guess some programming fun; I hope it'll bring back motivation since I haven't written a line of code in months outside of a shell.

>>52447134
I just slapped some hard drives on it for filler; the motherboard supports up to 6 SATA connections, so two SSDs and 4 HDDs are what I slapped on.
ZFS and RAID is even more redundant, isn't it?
>>
>>52447145
Just a random idea, try a basic conversion (like compression) and try cutting the compressed version. I'm looking for corruption
>>
>>52447214
Know the upper limit for SD card size on your phone.

Then determine what you're using it for.

If you're recording HD video or running filez off it (Like a loonux install) make sure you get something thats fast enough.
>>
>>52447227
desu I don't have any experience with ZFS. RAID is Redundant Array of (Insert favourite descriptive 'i' word here) disks.

It can work in a few ways, but the most common is to have mirroring, or span multiple drives into a single device file.
>>
>>52447273
From what I've fiddled with: ZFS handles anything you need (spanning drives, preventing data corruption, etc.).
Oh, and ECC is """"needed"""" with ZFS.
>>
>>52447320
I'm assuming you did right and made sure your motherboard and ram supports ECC then, right?
>>
How do I expand audio on CCCP's MPC-HC? LAV doesn't seem to be able to. Is installing ffshow the only way? I'm open to other players that have that functionality, provided they also work with soft subs.
>>

Of course; almost any dual socket motherboard supports ECC, since anything server hardware supports ECC.

>3. Up to 96GB** DDR3 1333/ 1066/

>>

No buffering on the ram though?
Interesting choice, but I'm sure you have your reasons for that. (Price, or you can configure stuff without the need for it).
>>
>>52447239
It supports SDXC but lists 128 GB as the max, and the camera records up to 3840x2160 at 30 fps or 1920x1080 at 60

The sticks of ECC RAM on the list are buffered/registered (although they're just more filler I slapped on; the sticks I plan on ordering aren't on pcpartpicker because not new server hardware aren't on it)

Just got a GTX 980, however I'm having trouble with drivers. Every time i out the 980 in, i can get into windows but only for a few seconds, then I get no signal error on my monitor. I'm pretty sure it's because of a bad driver loading or something. So I completely uninstalled all Nvidia driver software, used Driver Sweeper (in safe mode) and tried to boot back into normal Windows 8.1 to install the driver. But I still got the no signal after I sign in. I'm 99% sure its the drivers because it works fine in safe mode.
Any ideas?
>>
>>52447455
> Unbuffered DIMM

Pretty sure thats code for "Doesn't support buffered ram"
>>
>>52447495
Oh it does; the "Key Features" block has it formatted differently than the memory section:
>Supports up to 96 GB** 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC Registered memory
>Supports up to 24 GB 1333 / 1066 / 800MHz DDR3 ECC / Non ECC Unbuffered memory
>1333 / 1066 / 800MHz ECC Registered / ECC or Non ECC Unbuffered DDR3 SDRAM 72-bit, 240-pin gold-plated DIMMs

Only 24GB of it are unbuffered. What slots are unbuffered I do not know.
>>
>>52447495
>>52447539
Actually that's stupid. The board supports a max of 16GB, and 16 * 6 = 96; It can't be a matter of what slots.
>>
>>52447449
According to basic googling, for recording 4k video you'd need a U1 or U3 speed class card.

Size depends on your needs obviously.

>>52447539
>http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DTL-i.cfm

Just checked the site.
From what I just read it seems that the MOBO will support 96gb or registered ram, and 24 of unbuffered.
I'd check with support or someone who owns the board just to make sure that is correct.

I just tried a bunch of stuff.

1. Converting the entire original mp4 to mkv and then trying to copy pieces of it. The same result happens (packet with invalid duration at the end or beginning of each mp4 I try to cut out of the original)

2. Re-encoding both an mkv and mp4 part from the encoded to mkv original. (same result)

3. Cutting a piece out of a completely different mp4 using the same arguments as before:
ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -ss 00.00 -t 00.00 -acodec copy -vcodec copy output.mp4

This gave the same result.

4. Cutting an mp4 piece of the original mp4 without any codec copy arguments. This worked without skipping, thought the quality was noticeably lesser.

So the issue is both the -acodec copy and -vcodec copy arguments. Which is annoying, because I'd rather not lose quality on a re-encode. I know it's been a while since you responded, but given this information do you have any idea how I could get ffmpeg to copy properly?

>>52449690
I'm not necessarily saying that, gold and higher rated power supplies from reputable brands do what they're meant to do but if they constantly get hammered by bad electricity they're going to wear down and die eventually. The thing that's supposed to separate good PSUs from bad PSUs is the ability to fail gracefully and not explode taking your other parts with them but again, nothings flawless. A UPS would A:Be the one taking the hammering for it and B: carry a warranty that, if by some unholy chance your house is stuck by lightning or some shit killing everything electronic in it, reimburse you up to a fairly absurd amount.

It's really up to you to judge if the electricity in your area is bad enough for you to be worried/your hardware valuable enough to throw a couple hundred at potentially nothing.
