Not sure what private trackers are all about?
The mission of /ptg/ is to promote the highest possible standards of tracker service by providing members with opportunities for professional development, by recognizing technical competence through examinations and by advancing the interests of its members.

Check out the wiki and update it yourself if you want more instead of complaining like a fucking faggot. https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Private_trackers

reposting here because I think it's important

I had a realisation earlier today...

AHD was DDoSed, Bib went down, GGn went down, but not BTN, PTP or WCD.

So that's most of the top trackers except the 'perfect 3' (and HDBits).

Isn't it obvious what's going on here?

The 'perfect 3' trackers, along with HDBits, have started a tracker protection racket of sorts. The other top trackers, who refused to cough up, were DDoSed.

AHD later saw what was going on and (reluctantly, I assume) paid their dues. Bib and GGn, however, have not done so yet.

Does anyone else see this reasoning? It seems perfectly logical to me.

I'm not going to post my identity here, I don't want WCD, BTN and PTP to ban me for exposing them. :/

What can we, the users, do to fight this aggressive protection racket that is destroying out beloved trackers?
>>
>>52439102
Now I'm not on AHD but
>Bib / GGn staff
>competent
Don't make me laugh
And how does 'everything' line up? They're getting attacked at the same time, so it must be the work of the covert WCD/PTP/BTN mafia? Wouldn't it be somewhat more likely if they were getting attacked by an anti-piracy group, a site that has been known to do that before (IPT) or any other less far-fetched reason? Is there any evidence of it you actually have to go on here?
>>
>>52439208

PTP, BTN and WCD are DDoSd all the time too, dummy.
>>
>>52439208
We DDoS them and don't stop. Then they will blame the other people and stop paying them.
>>
>>52439218
I did. Then the site went down. And the tracker along with it. All in less than 24 hours.
>>
>>52439216
>Is there any evidence of it you actually have to go on here

not really evidence, but meaningful speculation

> Wouldn't it be somewhat more likely if they were getting attacked by an anti-piracy group, a site that has been known to do that before (IPT) or any other less far-fetched reason?

The obvious targets for any kind of attack on a private tracker are WCD, PTP and BTN. This has happened in the past (IPT). Why is it suddenly now that all the smaller but still at the top of their league trackers are being hit with DDoS attacks, and not one of the perfect three is being hit with an attack on such a scale?
>>
>>52439196
#invites on the blackcats IRC, members can give out invites
>>
>>52439257
This is a good idea actually, I'm wondering how feasible it would be in the real world. Conducting a large scale (A)DDoS attack is difficult, especially when the targets have anti-DDoS measures in place.

That's because the DDoS that was keeping them down before resumed, which is why they've started setting up cloudflare.

Are you forgetting the dozens of other trackers that aren't being attacked? Why does it strike you as odd that these sites in particular aren't downed? There are still bigger targets one could go after (most general trackers for example), and these sites already have the infrastructure that would make DDoSing them difficult anyway, without a large amount of resources.
Why do you not think any ex-staffer has ever came out about a 'protection racket' when they would have little/nothing to lose over it?

The big general trackers are IPT and bB. I would not be surprised in the slightest if IPT were somewhat behind this. I also would not be surprised if bB was the next target... say, it was down recently, wasn't it? Did they give a reason for this downtime?

>Why do you not think any ex-staffer has ever came out about a 'protection racket' when they would have little/nothing to lose over it?

OT has less than 1000 users and azacuck likes wasting his time on autistic bullshit and he's still not TC on any tracker, even AB kek.
>>
>>52439612
80-100mbps if utilized correctly can be pretty devastating, SMNP attacks theoretically have a maximum amplifcation factor of 650.

80-100mbps sounds pretty insignificant but 52-65gbps is much more damaging to a network.

NTP amplification is around 400 to 1, so that could still be 32-40gbps theoretically.

It's not always about brute force, smart attacks are often more effective than just throwing more computers(and bandwidth) at the problem

I've nothing left to say at this point other than your idea merely being some pretty backwards and arbitrary speculation (and probably bait) based on the little you know of people who actually staff those sites, but like Russell's Teapot I can't actually 'prove' your theory isn't true. One thing I do is I look on wikipedia to see which major artist are releasing their albums that week, and I keep an eye out for when those show up on the site (usually 1 or 2 days before the official release). If you snatch them early, you'll get a lot of upload off of that.
>>
>>52442072
>music from bandcamp
>download FLAC
>check spectrals
>all 128 tier garbage

And that's just the free shit, I know they do the same shit on the paid stuff.

What also seems to have a very dedicated number of requestfags who do nothing but make and fill requests. They'll get 100GB in upload and spend it all on requests the same day. They seem to keep a lot of that whole system going.
>>
>>52442041

I've never checked the spectral and when you are filling a request for someone they will know you are uploading the FLAC from bandcamp.

I'm satisfying them - not you who checks free shit off bandcamp.

Yes, and I'd guess it will be for a long, long time. Between the DDOS and the baffling freeleech completely ruining the economy for the rest of time, it would not be surprising if they didn't return at all from this.

It's been said before, but dear god how is their staff this incompetent?

Bib really did work because it was like a library. What were they thinking. Freeleech tokens, maybe 20 or 30 for any sized torrents for the users would have been a way to reward people better. A sitewide freeleech for a tracker that can basically be entirely ripped in 2 hours? Insanity.

true this.
the only thing i can think of is that after being down for a few weeks they might have thought that users deleted their seeding torrents and might want to re-download them.
but that doesn't excuse the freeleech. bib was working just fine as it was. i think everyone was just happy to see the site back up again.

Because I want to see the images directly? For .zip I would need to have 2 of the same directories and waste space, one for torrenting and one for viewing.
For .cbr I would need an external program just to see it on PC. What if I need to see it on my TV through plex or whatever streaming program there is? It also looks unclean.
Oh yeah there is also the issue of files names, can't change those. The best format is 001.png,002.png,etc. Not file_001.png.

Comic viewers can read zips, too. .cbr, .cbz etc. are just normal archives.

>What if I need to see it on my TV through plex or whatever
why the fuck would you want to access smut doujin through plex?

>Oh yeah there is also the issue of files names, can't change those. The best format is 001.png,002.png,etc. Not file_001.png.
Doesn't matter if they're a proper cbr/cbz/cb7. That's part of the file format, and a comic viewer will read them properly. They'll also display in order if you unarchive it.

>Also because autism.
Entirely because autism, apparently.

>>
>>52444473
The site looks a lot better, although to me Gazelle doesn't really work for games at all but BCG looks like fucking xXxD4RKN3SSXxX ass I won't even defend it.

GGn also has a better collection of board games and game guides and shit. Everything is FL for the first 6 hours of uploading on GGn too, which in my opinion leads to their biggest problem - shitty seeding.

It's easy as piss to game them. If you are in that initial FL swarm you take no ratio hit, and just have to seed it for 3 days to avoid hnr and you make the most buffer during that time anyway. That's it. For very new and very popular games, that's fine, people will seed those forever. For everything else, people will delete the torrent. I sure as hell do and the main reason is because games are massive.

Trying to download even a 1 year old game on GGn is like trying to grab shit off some australian with a 20kbps upload speed on a public tracker or the torrent is just dead. BCG does not have that problem, shit is always well seeded there.
>>
>>52444566
also depending on your POV this can be a positive or negative, but BCG has better cheater detection. Im on my third account there. Still wasnt caught on GGn
