Worth the upgrade from a membrane peasant?
>>
i find them kind-of annoying
>>
>>52416201

No, mechanical keyboards are placebo
>>
Only worth it if you live alone in a basement.

Buy a membrane ergonomic keyboard.
>>
I never want a membrane again. Typing is so much better, the leds are great to see in the dark
>>
Don't like em
>>
It is worth it. You could always get the Happy Hacking Topre.
>>
It's kinda nice but I don't think it makes that much of a difference.
I'd say having a nice ergonomic desk and chair setup is much more important.
>>
I like them. Have 2 full-sized boards, - one for home use and one at work. After Christmas holidays at parents', where I had to use quite hideous Microsoft 600 rubberdome, I'm thinking to get compact 60% board in addition. For traveling. Like Poker or something.

Got this off craigslist for $60, mint condition.

Extremely happy with the price/performance ratio.

ducky shine 0 here, never been happier

no need to be so meme about it though

They likely do if you play Stepmania.

People in this thread are retarded if they think every single mechanical switch sounds the same.

Only two are designed to click, blues and greens. And buckling springs, if you're into that.

Everything else sounds like butter and feels like you're having sex while writing.
>>
>>52416866
it's all subjective desu

blues feel so good, it's such an intimate relationship with a keyboard~

what are the best switches for gaming?
>>
>>52416985
whichever ones feel most comfortable to you
>>
>>52417004
how are you supposed to discover that?
>>
>>52417019
type on them

go 2 a store or something
>>
>>52416985
Most popular - Red. Blacks are heavier reds.
I don't like linear switches, so I use browns for gaming. It's the matter of preferences.
>>
>>52416985
Usually, you want a lighter stroke to get the input in faster, reds and browns have the lightest activation resistance. You may also want to add o-rings to the keys to reduce the reset distance, since you're more likely to bottom the keys out during gameplay then typing; reduces noise too.

All cherry keys feature a 2mm activation point, so any type will trigger an action from the same moment you begin pressing the key. In this respect, there are other switch types that register key presses faster, like scissor switches and the ones SteelSeries boards use, but they're also not as nice to type on.

My WPM went up to 95-100 from 80-90 after switching to a mech

Depends, Logitech issued a newer version of the board that supposedly fixed the durability issues, but the only way to tell them apart is by the packaging. If the box says G-series in the top-left, it's the old one, if it has a stylized letter G similar to the one on the G502 mouse, then it's the revision.
>>
>>52417195
Oh I didn't know that.
>>
>>52417220
Yes, online retailers list it as "g-package" to differentiate it from the old one, though it's still not a great choice overall.
>>
it's bad, you become obsessed. at first I just wanted a basic high quality keyboard, and now I've ordered 100 switches and a microcontroller to build by own split, columnar design.

That's possible, it doesn't really have anything to do with it being a mechanical keyboard though, in the sense that there is no objective speed advantage to typing on a mechanical keyboard.

I own several mechanical keyboards with red and blue switches, and I still type the fastest on pic related

Though I mostly type on my Duck Shine 4 with blues since I love how it feels.

Yes, but not if you for the GAYYYMERRR GEAR ARRRR GEEE BEEEE lights.
>>
>>52416201

Yes. One huge advantage to me is the standardization in switches. Once you find a switch you like (for me it's blues, clicky + tactile) you can shop a bunch of different brands and you'll still know what you're getting.

Why are there no mechanical keyboards that look like something I'd want to use even if I didn't know it was mechanical? All I want is something that looks like a quality Microsoft or Logitech ergonomic keyboard, is that too much to ask?
>>
yes but try and get a refurbished one like I did, most mechanical keyboards are like $150 and despite how much I love mine I don't have the kind of money to drop that much on a luxury item
>>
I just got my Rosewill RK-9000V2 with MX Browns, and I really like it so far, except that the keys in the middle (t, g, 5, and the space bar) make a metallic pinging sound when I let them go. I think it's because of the metal backplate; it is most noticeable when I have the legs extended. When the keyboard is flat on the desk, the sound is there but it is a lot less noticeable.

Is this normal? I can get over it if this is just how it is, but if I can send it back for a keyboard that doesn't ping I'd like to do that.

WASD has a switch tester for $16 on amazon. Comes with all the MX switch types and O-rings
>>
>>52416201
do you wear out keyboards? If not dont get one. If you find yourself having to replace keyboards every year or so then definitely yes. Also if you never used one before theres no benefit. If you grew up with computers they are a nice return to high quality that you missed when they started making cheap keyboards.
>>
>>52417126
how the fuck does some break keycaps? are you typing with bricks?

yes
>>
>>52420567
lol I've broken them from dropping the keyboard by accident but most people understand pressing the key harder doesnt make you move faster.
>>
>>52416866
There are way more than those three.

Alps, Hi-Tek, Mitsumi, new Matias Alps switches, old Acer slider on spring models, and others. Not to mention that you can pop open Alps switches, fold some metal tabs and completely change the feel of the switch.
>>
>>52420725

I understand perfectly well but that doesn't mean it's a consideration when I'm in the heat of a game.

remember, they're loud as fuck. it's ok if you live alone but if you have one at work you'll probably piss everyone off.

if you work on this you will be able to play better. You need to play objectively or gtfo.

Are they worth it if i only want a better feeling?
I want a comfy keyboard and i want it to look good and solid.
Going to get mx brown since they're common and easy to find.
If i live in Italy can i import one from the USA and change the keycaps so that i have an italian layout?
Are there any reasons to buy new or can i get a secondhand one?
Thanks

MX blues. Maximum clack, I fucking love it. I had red switches before this and they straight up sucked. This is more like it, feels precise but not exhausting.
